"Formerly" a prison and the namesake for Gaol Isle, is the base of operations for Dr. Dorothy Hemphyll, an important leader in the Healer's Guild and darklord of [[Immerabt. The Fortress is a sanitarium of massive size that covers a third of Gaol Isle.[1] The Fortress also doubles as a medical academy and keeps its own small armed force for defense.[2] A circle of dead trees surround the Gothic style edifice. The Fortress is powered by various coal and electrical powered machines.[1]

A staff of 20 full time, elite Healers attend to a patient count of a hundred souls. Unknown to most, Dr. Hemphyll keeps another 250 people in the catacombs and dungeons below. These people live torturous existences extended through various gruesome and unnatural means of mad science. Dr. Hemphyll performs medical research on them and extended their lives past when they should die without their consent.[2] This is not because she has callous disregard for their lives, but rather because she might be said to care for them too much. She cannot bare to see them die.
