Skurra-vera Magic Masks protect Vistani-blooded individuals against the Twisting. The "masks" are in fact face-paints, created by the Skurra. These masks represent a form of sympathetic magic, whereupon the mask assumes gross forms instead of the person whom wears it. However, in return, the Vistani whom wears the paint forgoes ever giving another person his name or even speaking, for such would show a measure of identity that robs the masks of their power.
