Re: Death House
Although the game is adequate and the places the royalists discovered proved to be ideal and warm, it was a night of fitful rest. Everyone of the stranded heroes cannot shake the feeling they're being watched.
Before morning, when the horizon started to barely get gray, a light rain started dropping. The drops were cold and large similar to tears dropping from a thousand dead eyes, hidden behind a pale, gray veil of clouds.
As the very first rays of an anemic sun were trying to pierce the mists and cloud, whomever was keeping watch heard light feet running and panting breaths as two small silhouettes were outlined through the gray bark of the trees. While the rest of the group was roused from their uneasy sleep, two kids, a visibly shaken girl with a younger boy, close in with fast steps. They stop once they notice you.
Your eyes are drawn towards toward the pair, standing in the middle of the still sleeping forest. They are looking at you indecisively. The boy is weeping and clutching a stuffed doll. After shushing the boy, the girl turns to you and says, “There’s a monster in our house! It's there!” and turns to point towards the west, although you can't see far in the darkness and mists.

Gnorric says nothing, but eyeballs the doll the little boy carries.

Re: Death House
Bhunder keeps silent, but thinks that one of the normal , non fire toys he has in his backpack might interest the boy.
"They look like elves, brother. That little one might enjoy one of our toys, Gnorric. What do you think?" He whispers to his brother

Re: Death House
Van still sleepy stands up but doesn't get closer so he doesn't scare the children.
"Hello, you said it is a monster in your house? How it is look like and more important where are your parents, better find them first and then see how we can deal with the monster."

Re: Death House
Kimber rolls smoothly to her feet and eyes the pair with some surprise. She turns and looks in the direction they pointed, then glances back again.
"How far away is your house?"
If the answer is just a few yards, she feels more urgent action may be needed!

Re: Death House
The kids, especially the little boy (Thorn), seem startled and afraid of Kimber, the gnomes and also of the dwarf cleric. They shy away from the demihumans startled as their forms come out of the mists in the somber rain.
"Are you monsters? Are you fae?" Rose says as she steps in front of her brother that hides his face on her cloak. She drags her brother closer to Van and looks at the "adult" for answers.

Van goes and stands between the children and his companions.
"Don't get scared children, they are not monsters, they are my friends. You must be hungry, take some berries and there is a river nearby for fresh water.
Van gets some of the remaining berries and extends his hand so the kids can take any if they want.
"We arrived here last night, even if we aren't sure where we are. You are safe with us now. But tell me, where are your parents, how far away is your house and describe the monster you saw in the house. We will deal with it don't worry."

"It's true -- no one here will hurt you," says Vorj, taking a few steps forward and getting down on one knee to continue speaking with the children. "Are you injured? My name is Vorj. Show us to your house and we'll deal with this 'monster.'"
____________
Vorj reaches out with his Divine Sense. While he's not suspecting anything about the children, he is concerned that whatever frightened them could be close by.

Re: Death House
Rose shies back from the offered food. She seems to be considering what to do while Thorn peeks out of her back at the Paladin, still clutching his doll. After a moment, Rose breaks the silence.
She introduces her brother and herself by full name and says:
"We don't know how the monster looks like; we've heard its howls as our parents temporarily trapped it in the basement. We ran once it started howling and banging at the door to bring help, but we got disoriented in the mist and dark and instead of running towards the village, we ended up here. "
"Walter is still is in the house" Thorn adds timidly.
Rose nods. "Our baby brother Walter is still in the house with the monster. Can you help us? You have swords and armor. Please hurry along, our home is a few minutes from here but you can't see it in the mist. It's a bit outside the village."
Rose seems close to tears herself as she looks to the paladin and the warrior.
As the party rushes through the woods following the kids, Vorj and Kimber, more skilled in the wilderness can see a track that those villagers probably use for hiking. Rose answers the questions of adventurers while Thorn, the more shy of the two, interjects occasionally. They don't take anything from the heroes and they seem to be afraid of them nearly as much as the monster.
As the group jogs towards the house, the rain becomes stronger but the mist becomes thicker despite the rain. They can barely see out to a hundred yards. Rose, if asked, reveals their home is a big house in the outskirts of a village named Barovia, overlooked by castle Ravenloft. In their haste and fear, the kids don't answer many questions about the place the party found themselves in.
After 3-4 minutes of jogging, Rose stops. She then points to a tall brick row house that has seen better days. Its windows are dark. It has a gated portico on the ground floor, and the rusty gate is slightly ajar.

Bhunder walks over to Van, and hands him a wind up wagon. "Give this to teh boy, he will enjoy it." He shows the human how to use it , while he smiles at the
boy and his sister. He nods at the elder girl then returns to Gnorric's side.

Re: Death House
The kids don't take the toy. "Mother said to not accept things from strangers" Rose said suspiciously. It seems that with a monster along with their parents and brother in the house, the kids are beyond the usual child curiosity.

Van shrugs and returns the toy to Bhunder. Getting another look at the house he asks:
"You live in there?"

Rose nods, with a sad frown looking at Van. Occasionally she and her brother would steal a glance towards the demi-humans.VAN wrote: "You live in there?"

Bhunder is unsure as to why the children fear he or his brother, so he nods to the little girl. "This is how the toy works, little one."
He winds it up, and moves away from Gnorric, then places it on the ground facing his brother. The toy wagon moves towards Gnorric, before stopping at his feet.
