The speaking one looks to the other and nods. "I am Laurie. Laurie Weathermay. This is my sister Gennifer. Pleased to make your acquaintance, William. And who are the rest of your companions?"

Van is about to speak, but William beat him on time expressing exactly his thoughts. So he remains back without losing the two women from his eyes ready to cast a spell if they try anything. When Laurie speaks he says:

"I'm Van Thunderstorm. Pleased to meet you. I don't want to be rude, but you haven't answered my friend's question. How 2 women are in a camp in the forest during the night and be that relaxed and even more trust strangers to join them?"

The travel north was much faster and safer than usual. Lucius couldn't avoid looking to his back most of the time, and there was a sense of urgency in his travel. The sooner they got to Darkon, the sooner he could attempt to be cured and have a chance at genuine happiness.

But this sudden change in the wheel of fortune had him unnerved. He talked to Deari a lot during that time, probably retreating a bit from the rest of the group without noticing, cementing the relationship they had just begun. And although her presence and that of the rest of the group comforted him, he couldn't avoid thinking that fate itself was preparing an ambush on them.

He knew Van was of a like mind, and occasionally he expressed his doubts to him, but in truth, the days passed uneventfully until the two twins appeared on the road, one night.

He kept always an eye on Vassili, who still looked at Lucius like a surrogate father while having in Jacob his more stern teacher. Vassili was already an experienced rider, as is the way with most Vistani, but he couldn't yet mount a large horse so he rode with Lucius or Jacob for most of the time. When he had Vassili on his saddle, he would explain to him the geography of the land and, most often, the folklore and legends associated to particular trees, lands, or historical events that the landscape reminded him of. But even if Vassili was a good learner, most of the times he was also an intriguing teacher for Lucius.

On the last night on the road to Pel, they came upon a strange camp set by only two women, clearly twins too. At first impression, Lucius is as much doubtful and reserved as the others. He mutters softly, so softly that only Vassili and Dear can hear him:

"Two people alone on the woods! Either they're very powerful or they're very dangerous..."

He waits for their introductions and adds, not wanting to sound rude.

"Pleasure to meet you, ladies. Are these forests safe, would you say?"

Deari has been watching Lucius as they have been heading toward Darkon... He is somewhat nervous, but it has not stopped them from speaking more to each other. He is still kind and on occasion they have slipped off to discuss things more personally, though she has begun to see a lot of nervous behavior in him. Perhaps he had not even recognised all of it yet himself.

He has been by her and Vaasili's side through most of the time they have traveled and she has been doing her best to be kind with the boy. She has however said only as much as she felt comfortable doing, as the familiar caution around children began to creep up. She did however send Hobert over to guard the boy as he slept, often finding the dog lying nuzzled into the child for comfort and warmth. Everyone in the group cared for the boy, and while she was uncomfortable she was not an exception. She however felt the loss as it seemed the others were not subject to her hang ups of such and they laughed and taught him well. She might not be able at the time to do such but she was very protective.

Therefor, when they all stopped on the roadside and the ladies addressed them she silently directed Hobert to move between Vaasili and them... Listening to Lucius speak to them made her very sure that her actions may be in order. She kept her face neutral and kept herself close to Vaasili just in case. She would not let discomfort prevent her from acting if neccessary.

Lucius looks at the two women expectantly, doubtful. The stress of the last days was perhaps making him a little bit paranoid. It didn't help that Deari seemed uncomfortable with something, despite his best efforts to reassure her... or was it the other way around?

Standing in the middle of the night, confronting two strangers who so suddenly offered them rest and company, he began to question his attitude of the past few days. Was it the beast inside trying to get free? Was it the hurry for reaching safe haven? Was it the pressure of their not being followed when they clearly should be? Was it all paranoia?

He looked back to where Deari stood. She seemed uneasy once again, but her face showed resolution and her weapons were at the ready. His own face, though, must have seemed grim to the others around. Grim and thoughtful. Funny that since the night when Jacob had announced his departure, he and Deari had never had a chance to be so intimate again. He didn't even know if she had accept his kiss or if she had found it an abuse of his. Sure, they had been close companions since then, but he was not sure he had not pressed too fast too far and scared her away.

Or could it be Vassili, that he, so inadvertently, was imposing on her? He looked at the twins, who seemed so happy and unworried when so much clouded his mind that he questioned once again his conduct. He had promised to enjoy happiness, but he had allowed himself to be carried away. Perhaps it was time to see things through a lighter lens. Perhaps these two women were just honest travellers who happened to be quite adroit at moving in the wilderness and defending themselves.
Perhaps... but he was not speaking until someone else did.

He retreated to the middle of the group and prepared to cast a spell.

While Lucius casts his prayer spell, and Van prepares his lightning bolt a man emerges from the forest near the twins. Hawklike face, tall and muscular he holds what are obviously four dead rabbits in his right hand. They've already been skinned. He is about to say something when he notices the party.

He does speak now, though, after seeing Van's and Lucius' reactions.
"We aren't going to try anything funny. Trust me when I say we can handle ourselves. We are searching for a friend who has already passed this way a few days earlier. Now, will you join us for a meal or continue your shenanigans?"

He moves to the girls and begins preparing the rabbits for a meal. One of the girls, Laurie, helps him and removes some foods from a pack and soon they are cooking.

Jacob steps forward. "I apologize for our behaviour. One can never be too sure in these lands. If you wait a moment we can eat in a better environment and perhaps enjoy some good conversation."

The dark elf moves off and finding an appropriate clearing begins casting his two spells. Once done he moves his horse to it's shelter and then enters yours.

Deari stands down as Jacob seems to be more accepting of the apparent situation... She however follows with her between Vaasili and them, as she passes places her hand upon Lucius to get him to follow... No one on her side seems to be trying to be fully open or accepting, despite the gesture of Jacob and while she want's to believe them, there is still the lingering fear of another ambush. Vaasili is nervous by the feel of his hand and she cannot deny that she is also slightly too worried and nervous to comfort him.

Still she is willing to open herself to the chance that this is just what it seems to be. So she nods politely to the strangers as she passes and tries to show a rather non defensive posture. She is not wanting to be rude, and she is very much in the mind of wishing to hear more before something perhaps unneccessary comes to pass.

"My name is Deari... Please forgive our reaction, and I guess come in and get to know us inside... We simply have had bad travel experences before and we have much reason to be cautious..."

After Deari escorts Vaasili to Jacob leaving Hobert to both guard and keep him company, she pulls Lucius calmly aside to speak privately. He had been less bold in much of what had transpired between them in the previous nights, and she had planned to take her leave to act tonight. But until this situation has passed she feels she has little chance to do such.

"Well what do you think of them? I do not want any harm to come to anyone because we trusted them, but I don't think they are villians or monsters from what I see... They also would have attacked much sooner if so, I believe... I just want to keep the child safe, but I was also wanting some time to ourselves tonight... I don't like seeing that look of concern in your very kind eyes about me when I know you think about us and perhaps I am not showing enough... I wanted to fix that tonight..."

Despite all the worry about what was going on, she smiled and leaned into a very soft yet heartfelt kiss. Not to long but long and aggressive enough to imply some definite physical yerning, but also short enough to say that the moment was off for the time. With a small but meaningful smile/pout, she hoped he would understand the meaning behind it as she slowly partially relased him from the slight embrace. Looking into his green and brown eyes she believes she might have done such.

"I don't want to leave this now, but I cannot leave the child even partially undefended, even for this... At least for tonight with the situation as it is now... You understand right?"

William enters the shelter after a majority of the others, giving Deary and Lucius their privacy as quickly as he can. After closing the door behind him he takes off his coat and pack, setting them out of the way.

Looking to the twins and the man in their company, he places his hands on his hips.
"Didn't catch yer name." William says to the man. "You said you have been looking for a friend. Don't really know if it helps ya but I don't recall seein' anyone else on our way up here from Cortton. Before that, Forformax. Course we were stickin to the roads. And if this friend of yours has a couple days lead on ya, well, then we probably missed them out right."

He grabs a chair and has himself a seat, listening to whatever they have to say.

<Before entering the shelter>

"Please, Sir, I think you have misunderstood us",
Lucius addresses the mysterious man. "The spell I cast was merely defensive, the roads are not safe and, as my friend has said, we have recent reasons to be worried. I trust you yourselves probably have your own spells up."

His tone is concilliatory, and subdued. He points at his friends and says:
"These are my friends, these are the people I trust in. I merely prepared to protect them from harm.
Not that you, Ladies and Sir, have a bad menacing look, but you're road-weary, I see. You sure know that appearances deceive.
I do want to believe you're good people. There's nothing I desire more than finding a safe quiet place to be."

He feels Deari's hand reaching for him. Looking at her, he knows she is right and once again feels comforted and more balanced.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After they enter the shelter, Deari and Lucius find the time to speak alone. "I understand you Deari. We do not know for sure their intentions, but inside I feel they must be good people. I trust we'll be all right tonight.
But you're right, we must stay alert, and I sure will make sure nothing happens to Vassili... nor you, my Dear.
He gladly receives Deari's kiss, and continues, more jokingly and with a slight mischievous tone.

"I know you're strong, Deari, a true athlete. But I will not let you out of my sight."
and then he adds with his more usual serious look.
"The last thing I want now is that something bad would happen to you. Don't fear, I will not run away, and I do know duty must come before pleasure. I will wait for the proper time. I will wait for you ever."

And indeed he would, for the memory of each kiss she gave him, even if short and teasing, was a relief everytime the wait pressed on him.

The man eyes William. "I'm George. George Weathermay. Uncle to these fine young ladies. Nice to make your acquainatance, William as with the rest of you."

George sits and relaxes. It's readily apparent he doesn't usully have the time for such luxuries. Jacob cooks up a storm in the kitchen with Vassili next to him, chatting up a storm with the young man.

The girls sit by themselves in discussion. Every once in a while they glance over at George than talk amongst themselves.

Van is the last one that enters the shelter. He trusts Jacob's wisdom so if the dark elf was comfortable have 3 strangers for dinner he should go for it as well. He gets a seat beside Laurie and says:

"I'm sorry again, we didn't want to be rude, just precaution. Glad to meed all of you."

Gennifer stilll remains quiet. Laurie looks at Van and says "It's ok. We get that a lot. I can't help but notice that you're a pretty big party traveling here in Kartakass. Mind if I ask what you're doing here? Especially with" she nods towards Jacob and Cornelius "Those two? Quite the odd travelers you are. I think some of you are Darkonians. But as for him and him" she pints to Jacob and William "well they aren't. And he is definitely not of Sithicus."

Though Laurie may be young, she is very perceptive. "And you've a young Vistani boy with you."

In the kitchen.............

"So Vassili, how is your reading coming along?" the dark elf asks the boy.

Vassili replies shyly for once "I almost have the first two pages, Jacob. I promise I'll try harder for our lesson tomorrow, before we leave. Please wake me early enough so I can learn some more?"

Jacob smiles and ruffles the boys hair gently. "On one condition, young man. You are in bed by nine, understood?"

"Yes sir!" The boy ahs a rather huge smile on his face as he leaves the kitchen to look for Lucius.

When he finds he and Deari, with Hobert, he walks up to the pair with purpose. "Jacob said I could have another reading lesson tomorrow before we leave! But I have to be in bed by nine. Make sure I am, ok Lucius?" The boy moves to sit between the pair and leans up against Lucius.

George scans the room and spies Cornelius as well as Jacob. Excusing himself from the others, he walks over to Cornelius and introduces himself.
"I'm George Weathermay. Nice to make your acquaintance, friend dwarf. You travel far from your kin, I see. Might I inquire as to what brings you to be with these men and that one?," he nods towards the cooking drow.
"He isn't like any elf I've seen before, to be perfectly honest."

Deari looks down slightly as Vassili leans against Lucius... He looks so fragile and young to her... Still she sees that he is a brave and earnest in himself and she is glad to see such is still in such a child.

Lucius seems happy to have the attention, and his hand rests easy on the leaning boy. He treats him so well as if his own flesh and blood brother in a fashion... Or even a son...

He would make an excelent father...

That thought forced a blush to her face, and she was quite happy to smile when she let her mind wander to the subject... Still she wondered if the nervous feeling she had around children would ever pass... Even with her own children... But she did not think much on that as she wanted to keep her smile for him. Was not very hard as she stared at him...

Waiting till the food was done, she smiled even more brightly as she rose, and listened to the others talked to the two women and there male companion. They seemed to be slow in relating to them but she little minded. She watched them as they observed her friends, especially the one named Laurie who seemed to be very curious about everything. While things were tense she felt, less of the worry in the back of her mind.

She brought some food and two glasses of wine, and one of water, to divide between herself, Lucius and Vassili... She then sat beside him and moved close enough on the other side so there was little room between them. Just using one hand to eat as the other held his resting on her thigh under the table.

Hobert draped himself lazily across all their feet, making himself comfortable... So many strange or odd scents and yet a confusing smell came from the newcomers. He watched and wondered if his toy was in danger of being swiped by the older male, but only lazily. Still he was happy to get small scraps of food as they fell or were tossed before him while keeping their feet both warm and pinned.

As the metaphorical clouds between the two groups seemed to open, and conversation began to flow, Lucius and Deari returned to the rest of the group. They had taken their seats at the table, as Van engaged Laurie and George went to talk with Cornelius. Of the three strangers, only Gennifer, apparently, was more given to watching than speaking.
Lucius and Deari were pretty close, enjoying their mutual company even in the midst of others. The group seemed to have accepted their coming together pretty well, so there was no reason to hide their affection. He girdled her waist with his left arm, pulling her to him in a way that drew some new colour to her cheeks.
While Vassili was in the kitchen with Jacob, and still holding Deari closely, Lucius joined the conversation.

"Cornelius and Jacob are our friends. There's nothing really strange in their being with us. Cornelius is a member of our group since the very start, and Jacob is an acquaintance we made on the road who has on more than several occasions earned the title of friend. I don't really view the group as 'we' and 'them'. I assure you, Lady Laurie, these are good people."

[OOC: I trust Laurie's question was heard by everyone?]

"Actually, I'm also curious about yourselves. I've lived in Dementlieu for many years now. More to the north, it is true, but I'm quite familiar with some tales of the Northwestern countries. And I think your name, Weathermay, reminds me of old sailors' stories of Mordent. Perhaps not under this name exactly, but close enough. 'Heather', 'Galloway', 'Wetherby' and such are names frequent in songs. Have you got any relation to that land?"

[OOC: supposed to be a shot in the dark, drawing from Lucius's skills in History and Geography, and a bit of folkore]

While he waits for the twin's answer, Vassili comes running from the kitchen and intrudes between Lucius and Deari, forcing him to withdraw his arm from her. Lucius is caught by surprise at the young Vistana, and though he is a bit annoyed with this intermission, he doesn't show it, and arms himself with the patience so often necessry to handle children.

"Of course, Vassili. We don't want your teacher to get angry, do you? You do have to sleep early, if you want to grow strong and clever."

Dinner was a particularly happy moment for Lucius. While Vassili was beginning to fall asleep and began to press his left shoulder with his head, Deari (now on his right) was holding his right hand under the table. She held it firmly over her thigh and he didn't deny the invitation, daring even sometimes to wander a bit more, under her apparent consent, higher and to the inside of her leg. Truly she had the muscles of an amazon!
While the conversation continued among the others, this intimacy with her, even in the middle of so many people, the wine and the warm fire
made his worries flow away as if he were suddenly home once again... Home and in a family feast. For the first time in many days, he was once again relaxed and his heart beat healthily fast. He even felt no compunction in taking Deari aside and kissing her once the meal was done. Her violet eyes were glistening and he could tell his were too. Vassili was sleeping on the bench, and Hobert barked happily.
He rose and said "I'm going to take the boy to bed. I'll be right back."
