GameMastery: Critical Hit Deck by Paizo
I just discovered this little game add-on yesterday. I put a deck on order just to have it in the collection. I didn't like optional critical hits in AD&D but I figured that since its already built-in to 3e that this deck might spice things up.
Does anyone here use this deck in general ? Does anyone use this deck for Ravenloft ?
Any stories out there ?

When a player confirms a critical hit, instead of just multiplying damage, that player draws one card from the deck and follows the result appropriate to the weapon's damage type (bludgeoning, piercing, or slasing). For magical attacks, the magic entry is used. For weapons with critical multipliers of x3, the player draws two cards and chooses which effect (of the appropriate category) to use (x4 weapons draw three cards.) The player must take the card's result unless it cannot be applied, in which case the player rolls x2 damage normally.alhoon wrote:What is this deck LG?
A GM can also use the crit deck for monsters and NPCs.

Hmmm. . . I suppose this could be useful for some types of players and GMs but I probably wouldn't use it. Still, it looks like an interesting product.Alanik Ray wrote:Check this out:

Eh, there used to be some pretty nifty critical hit and fumble charts floating around out there, I'd check those out instead ... for the most part these are still rather bland, despite adding different mechanics to the result. (or, rather, because that's all they really do)
At least the magic fumble/crit cards were somewhat decent.

Is this the same stuff as the old school critical hits tables from the PLAYERS OPTIONS GUIDES? Remember stuff like SKILLS & POWERS, and stuff like that?
They had a guide of various critical hits ranging in severity and divided by weapon type. Everything from stinging inconvience to brutal amputation. Good stuff, we still use it. Same concept?
