Blink with ghosts

Post by kottakinge »

Hello fellow DM.
I had a question about rules:
what happens if someone fighting a ghost use the blink spell?
The ravenloft ph says it works against ghost, that mean that the character is considered to be in ethereal plane during all the time for simplifing the whole thing?
The D&D PHB said that you're blinking 50% material, 50% ethereal, so if u fight a ghost with say a magical sword, there is 50% chance that u're ethereal so the sword might hit the ghost with no penalty, or 50% that u're on material plane, so there is a 50% miss chance, right?
What do u said about that rule lawyers? :D

I'd follow the PHB rule as you have said, 50% chance to be in Ethereal and hit the ghost without penalty and 50% chance to be in matterial and have 50% misschance.
- The first 2 Feats a wizard should take are "point blank shot" and "Precise shot"!
- W H A T ! ? !
- Or they should NEVER memorize rays!

Which could be handily resolved with a percentile roll where you have a 75% chance of hitting the ghost.

Breaking down to 50% chance that you're immaterial, 25% chance that you're material but hit the ghost anyway, 25% chance of being material and the blow going right through them.
