For the record, we didn't "save" it It was given to us by Stu of the Kargatane, and arranged by ail.
This is step one for the catalogue. We'll see how we can make it closer to the old catalogue or wikipedia when we have time.
If anybody has wiki competence, and could transfer the database to this user friendly software (well, more user friendly then the software used by the Kargatane back then, but then wiki wasn't available), it would be appreciated. Let me know!

Just a reminder... I'm available to try implementing the catalogue as it was in dbman, if and when you ever want me to. It wasn't the most user friendly input method, but it wasn't that terrible, and the database already exists in that form. From what I've seen of the documentation, It shouldn't take more than a few days to set up.

Hi all,
I noticed Joël that the version that ended up online is not the best of them. I had made one where the longer files (NPC.html is the prime example) had been cut into several shorter ones that load considerably faster. If I didn't send you this version, tell me and I'll mail ASAP.
Edit: perhaps it would be better to change back- and fore-colors too, no? It could be done without problem, it's just that I positively hate to do anything related to graphic design
But considering the layout of the FoS site, perhaps black background, white text and red links or vice-versa would work well. And it's simple to do. Anything more complicated and I won't have time for it

It's been a while since I mentioned this, and since I was reminded by the mention of a wiki in the "ultimate ravenloft" thread, I figured I'd make my plea again... We've got the data, the server's got the capability, FoS has the permission to host, I've got the skills. Only thing missing is the FoS go-ahead and someone to give me the access.gonzoron wrote:Just a reminder... It's been a while since I looked at it, but as far as I remember, if the server supports this forum, it can support gossamer threads dbman (the free database software that runs the catalog.)ScS of the Fraternity wrote:The question is, what needs to go on the server?
What do you need set up on our end to begin work?

Perl 5 is required to be installed, but if I recall from my previous research, phpBB uses Perl too, so it should be there. So I'd just need to install dbman, (it's 32KB zipped, so it can't be too big installed) and upload the catalog data file (<1MB).

Just a quick note re:DBman - while it is very easy to install and use, I did make amendments to the code to make the Catalogue do what it does (like cross-reference between entries). I can't remember if I sent the DBMan program files as well as the data files a couple of years ago - but if not, feel free to message me and I'll get the files to you.

Good to see you around!
No, I don't think you sent this amended dbman program, or at least, no one has mentioned it to me. Who did you originally send the package to?

Hello Stu, indeed it is good to see you. Hope life treats you well.
No, I checked and the program wasn't with the database. Can you send it to Ron, who wants to pilot this project?

Hey there, sorry to be a bother again, but I just ran afoul of the catalogue's incompleteness again, and it renewed my determination to see this done...
Are going to go through with it? All I need is a password to log into the server.
I realize that's asking a lot, though, so if you really don't want me touching stuff, what about me hosting it at my own domain? Would the FoS (and Stu) allow that?
(following tradition, I'm thinking of www.orderoftheguardians.com. It's currently available, and sounds appropriate for housing a big, evil book. )

Sorry, Stephen was AWFK for the last days.
Send him a PM, he should respond next time he is online.
Otherwise, if it's not possible on the FoS, indeed, another site should be the way to do it.
