Ravenloft Reincarnated for SW (fan product) question

Post by CheshireCat »

I have a question about "Ravenloft Reincarnated" for Savage Worlds (fan product).

I plan to take mechanical stuff from it, but since the author removed/changed lore (because generally speaking it was problematic for the modern reader) I don't know if it is worth using...

I just don't know the world of Ravenloft (at all) to tell if this person removed the original material and replaced it with something that makes sense from a lore perspective? Or maybe the stuff he took out decreased the horror potential of the setting?

What are Your opinions of this book?

I think it's great. I am a huge fan of both the Savage Worlds rule system and of Ravenloft(obviously). I think that author did a great job with his conversion and it is clear that he was familiar with the SW Deadlands setting for much of his mechanical stuff.

Much of the background remains as it was except in a reduced format. There are a few things that have been 'de emphasised'. The Vistani barely get a mention and I suspect this was a deliberate policy. The whole Van Richten thing, which sets some peoples teeth on edge, has been somewhat sanitised as well. Some of the realms have been revised and got a little more detail than they ever had previously. The Tropes idea for each realm is excellent.

There is an Amber Wastes PDF floating around and a Tarokka PDF also. It's a pity that the author hasn't released anything for quite some time. I would really have liked to see his take on the Frozen Reaches Cluster.

That's true - but the FoS Library pdf is the older version than the one I uploaded.

@Cheshirecat

Is there much additional stuff in the version you found or is it just a tidying up excercise?

I don't know... I wasn't sure if this book is any good (due to the changes) so I didn't read it (just skimmed thru). You can check it out - the download link to the version I found is above.
