Full Fraternity of Shadows narrative

Post by tomokaicho »

Has there ever been the full narrative of the Fraternity of Shadows role play published in a single place? I know that some of it appeared in USS, and QtR, as well as on this forum, but its all fragmented. I feel like I am missing something.

That's one of my projects!

Wish I did.

I want to make :

- story of the FoS before van Rijn treachery
- story of the Evening with the Frat, when van Rijn declared itself a traitor, Frat manor was destroyed, we moved to Souragne
- story since then, FoS reports, Dirac gone, may be some new members coming in, etc.

Sounds good. I am looking forward to it. *hint hint*

It would certainly be interesting.

To be fair, editing the MGN was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.

This seems as good a place as any. What is the Fraternity of Shadows? What is the Kargatane? Explain it to me like I don’t know anything about it because I don’t.

Thats a bit of multiply answer, but fortnately it has been answered before.

So for the Karagatane, see section five on the following link

https://web.archive.org/web/19990202082 ... q/faq.html

For the Fraternity of Shadows, see section seven on the following link

http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/FAQs.html.

Further information for both groups is also on the Mistipedia

The FAQ is in sore need of an update, but here's the quick summary:

The Kargatane (in game) is a group of hangers-on and lackies to the Kargat, Azalin's secret police. The Kargat are all (or almost all? I bet there's an exception somewhere) undead and lycanthropes. The Kargatane specifically are lured in by the promise of immortality, but tricked into becoming thralls to the vampires of the Kargat.

The Fraternity of Shadows (in game) is a secret society of evil wizards looking to unravel the secrets of the demiplane.

The original staff of writers for Ravenloft at TSR called themselves "The Kargat". Hence, a group of fan writers in the mid 90's - early 2000's called themselves the Kargatane and founded a fan website, kargatane.com. Eventually that became the "official fan website" for Ravenloft, and several of the Kargatane were hired by Arthaus/White Wolf to write 3rd Edition Ravenloft. The Fraternity of Shadows were a group of fans who made fraternityofshadows.com when the Kargatane closed their site, to carry on as a home for Ravenloft fans.

The Kargatane (real world) included avatars of themselves in some of their publications and bits of intro text and such on their site. The FoS (real world) has followed suit and used our avatar characters to build a narrative over time in our gazetteer netbooks and around the site.

A small correction here: According to sources new and old, Half the Kargat are human agents, given as 3rd lvl rogues in the gaz. 10% are undead and the rest are shapechangers.

Ah, thanks... Something about that sentence didn't feel right, but I didn't realize just how wrong it was. I'm getting rusty. Time to read EVERYTHING AGAIN! :)
