She wanders around the parlour admiring the decor, a cup of wine in hand, and surely no one could imagine that she is paying particular attention to the fastenings on any windows, the floor and any noise it makes, the furniture and its positions or the locations of anything that could be of use to burglars. Never.
Katrin notices something very small moving just under the edge of the table in the middle of the room, but whatever it was vanishes in a blink.

She frowns very slightly and tries to move to a position where she can see under the table without being so obvious as to lean down and look

Katrin sees nothing odd under the table. Just feet of her companions, chair legs, shadows.

Still, she can't shake the feeling she's missing something...

Bennedict fidgets somewhat, drumming his fingers on surfaces. He smiles apologetically to any of the party who notice. "I usually had others do this part of the job," he says.

To Klokulf he says "Your condition is more than reasonable. Whenever we have a chance, let's sit down and work on it. Tonight, perhaps." He nods towards the scroll. "If...when I'm able to return to my work, this could save a lot of lives."
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

Kat frowns slightly "hmm thought I saw something... oh well, maybe just a mouse."

The door opens and the clerk who had examined the party enters.

"A place in the schedule has just cleared and your requested meeting has been arranged with the honorable Master Porphyrio Cadorna.
I would ask that you please all leave unnecessary weapons and armor behind, to be secured in one of our lock-rooms. Likewise any dangerous enchanted objects."
He smiles uneasily at Katrin, letting his gaze linger on her for a moment before turning his attention back to the whole group.
"And if you would please accompany me, most worthy citizens of Harrowdale..."
He motions toward the door.

Bennedict leaves his crossbow and walks through the door.
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

Not visibly armed, Klokulf hands over only one thing to be locked up: a bottle of green glass.

'Twas no mouse, he thinks to himself, and he keeps his mind's eye open.

He still senses a mind belonging to a hidden presence. Not the clerk. Another...

And then the spell runs its course and his special awareness of other minds fades out.

Raen locks his few weapons to the desired location, but keeps his components pouch as it was not requested. Of course, he hid it deeper in his robe. There was no indication if they would request him to remove it.

Katrin chooses to interpret the light dagger at her belt as a necessary weapon, and has brought no other. She makes no move to deposit anything.

SOON AFTERWARD...

The party has arrived in a second, larger meeting room.
A long table lined on both sides with upholstered, high-backed chairs dominates the middle of the floor. Light comes through a skylight of amber-hued glass, cut into a hundred little hexagons and casting a geometric pattern on the tabletop.

Two doors at opposite ends, one of which the party just came through.

By the time everyone is seated, the second doors opens and two burly men dressed in mail shirts, gauntlets, and steel-toed boots step through. They eye the party cautiously, hands near their sword hilts, but make no threatening moves.
Then a serving-man comes in and pulls out a chair at the head of the long table.
The clerk with the green monocle enters, but doesn't sit.
Finally, a stout middle-aged man dressed in fine, dark-hued clothes and an antique silver neck chain comes and takes the seat of honor.
The servant and the clerk remain standing.
The two guards step up near their master, on either side of his seat.

The seated man brushes a stray lock of black hair from his pale brow and adjusts his embroidered day-cap. ''Well-met, citizens of Harrowdale. I am Master Porphyrio Cadorna. What can I do for you?"

Raen looks around the room as they wait for Master Cadorna. When the middle aged man shows up and takes a seat, Raen moves towards one of the chairs and placing a hand on its back looks at the mononcled clerk to judge his reaction, on whether they are allowed to sit or they need verbal permission first.

Bennedict follows suit and sits as well. "If it please you," he says, "We come to speak with you regarding the plight of the town of Harrowdale. Some weeks ago, the town was beset by monstrous forces. The people were scattered. The buildings destroyed. Supplies ruined. We come on their behalf to negotiate trade deals to help them get back on their feet."
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."
