Graveyard Keeper (a ghoulish farming game)

Post by Hazgarn »

A friend of mine recently got this game for me. It's a quirky farming and building management game a lot like Stardew Valley, only with more cannibalism and a lot more death. A lot of the gameplay focuses on building up the quality of your graveyard, which requires you to master technology trees such as autopsy and embalming. You have the option to harvest parts from the corpses delivered to your morgue. You can sell the meat to the local tavern (with a bit of forgery), distill them into ingredients for alchemy, or make parchment and book bindings from human skin.

Apart from the cartoonish gruesomeness, the game has a lot of other Ravenloft-esque touches. The story of the game involves a nameless character from the modern world being caught in an accident and waking up in a mysterious medieval land of inquisitors, witches, cultists, ghosts, and talking skulls. As part of an ancient contract he is expected to fill the position of Graveyard Keeper for a nearby abandoned church while he tries to unlock the secrets of the dungeon under the graveyard to find the means of activating a portal to get home.
