As the party relaxes , enjoying some well-earned rest and the free drinks (good, crisp ale) , the guests clustered about the party's table converse amongst themselves and with the party.
The party picks up some unverified news, rumors, and opinions:

Royalists within the Protectorate aren't content with being allowed to speak on their opinions short of open sedition, but have been organizing trouble. The Governor is too lenient with them (this opinion starts an argument that ends with one man stalking out of the tavern, a sour look on his face and his fists balled at his sides).

In late Flamerule (which seems to mean about two months ago, in summer before the harvest season) clergy of Lathander burned a “ghastly witch” in the countryside near Arabel, in the North Kingdom. The flames transformed the monster into a beautiful red-haired woman— who promptly vanished in a nimbus of rosy light. Afterward, the blighted tree to which the woman had been fastened began giving fruit again. Word of the apparent miracle has begun to draw pilgrims to the site.

Horse rustlers ran off a herd from a local ranch last night, though some say it was grass-goblins with spades, because the broken fence had a big burrow dug beneath it. The rancher offers a reward for his horses' return.
Delight is to him- a far, far upward, and inward delight- who against the proud gods and commodores of this earth, ever stands forth his own inexorable self.

THE ADVENTURERS

Get the chance to rest a while, drink in cheerful company, swap stories...

After their drinks at the Firedagger, the travelers go to meet with the moneylender at his shop in the burg (15% charge for conversion to Sembian coins and a 10% charge for credit good only in this town and some nearby places on the high road, 500 gp total limit for cash),
Dorn’s gone to check on the party’s other business. He doesn’t object to company, should anyone offer to go with him.

Next stop: the alley-laundry shop.
The laundress is busy washing another load of soiled garments but pauses to greet Raen and his companions.
RAEN’s clothes still hang dripping on a line in the enclosed vacant lot behind the laundry.

Dorn returns to tell the group he’s gotten them an audience with the Governor—but only if they hurry. She’s a busy lady!
