Yah, a dead body, or even a gravely injured man, would have really changed things.Adam wrote:Not attempted murder? Guess good thing the guy pulled through.
Is this the sort of town where bribery could get you out of a charge like that? Not that we have money for that, and I'm sure lord Aldron has no interest in helping us anymore.

The fine, you don't know about yet.
It costs one silver pence a night for a PERSONAL cell with a cot, passable food, pisspot, etc.
Five follaros gets you a loaf of bread, a thin blanket (rental), and a night in ''the pit'', the general holding area. It's packed with drunkards, beggars, whores, and pickpockets. Lice may be a problem. Or theft,
Or brawls.
No money? You go into the pit without food or a blankie.

ALFONSE
AND TITUS
Being as you are both staying at the same inn, arrived in town the same day, and know one another from the road, should we consider a shared scene for the next day?
Or would you prefer separate scenes?

Van, we can say that we were working for someone but not reveal their name. Just say we were hired to find the hoodlums who
mugged our benefactor in the alley. It is a thought.

If Van's PC can pull off a fast-talking roll, the magistrate will release you guys with just the cost of your overnight jail stay.
Failure on the roll might be bad, though. Could make it seem like you were hiding something.
And the WIS and INT of the magistrate may modify the roll, as usual with fast talking.
Of course, you guys are essentially telling the truth, it sounds like, just leaving out certain details.

Re: POVERO Campaign OOC
Fild protests ALL the time that he's innocent, that they did nothing wrong, that the Gods will punish the watch for this, that he's a respected member of another town, that he is a noble gnome from a different land traveling incognito, that all this was a joke they played to a friend but they confused the house with the one they broke in etc.
He doesn't mentions Aldon at all.
If he has the time he passes these opinions to the rest:
- Saying 'we have a rich patron' throws suspicion. We're either lying or hiding something. Fild believes it's better to stick to the story we told the guards.
- Aside of Aldon hiring us as secret allies, we don't know this guy. The simplest problem could be nothing sinister but Aldon saying he doesn't know us and angered, to tell the judge to "make an example". Let's keep our end of the bargain. We did little damage. The fine will probably be OK.
Fild, being a warrior, isn't afraid of the pit and keeps the money for the fine. Does the watch take the money or he's in a pit with pick-pockets and a pouch of silver?

He can ask one of the jailers to hold his money for him.
Does he trust a stranger to do this?
As it is, you guys are jailed in your clothes, without anybody taking small, non weapon and non thief tool objects from you.
Shield and armor confiscated and kept in a guard room.
A successful pick pockets roll would allow a thief character to hide his tools, a small blade, etc on his person, palming and moving it.
Nobody strips you guys. You just get a pat down.
The guards aren't rough unless somebody gives them trouble.

Re: POVERO Campaign OOC
Note on money
If you can get out of jail by whatever means ( go to trial, escape, whatever ) and recon tact Aldron, or the other members of the party, you may be able to collect the advance payment from Aldron.
He was going to pay you each 10 pence for starting the job and 10 more when it was finished.
I mention this because one night for the PCs has taken longer for the players, mane time versus real time, and players might have forgotten what their characters would most likely recall.
