Just to be clear-
My intent was that Varian would have left the inn with the gnome while the other guests were messing around with the horse and the innkeeper. His plan was to grab his mule, and flee town. If a lock were to get in his way, he would pick it. Should that fail, a less subtle breaking-in would be his immediate next step. Break in, get the mule, leave town.
