Yeah.

Weapons are not confiscated , but rather turned in/checked in.

You are being watched and guarded in a room, but not exactly treated like prisoners.

Ok, so if gertie puts food in her backpack, they won't make a fuss, I imagine?

They probably expect that sort of thing from a bottom class type like GERTIE.

They are watching you guys, and they see something.

But since GERTIE has pick pockets, I will allow her to roll against that.
Stevil's PC was trying to hide the note.

GERTIE and Alfonse were just caught passing the note.

Not before she stuffed it in her clothes, though.

You may all take actions.

If you choose to fight, roll INITIATIVE.

Neither side is liable to be surprised, as for all the lenient treatment Elissa's words earned you before, you are still criminals and they are still the watch.

And do not forget the weapons and armor have been taken to another room.

Writing obviously takes a bit longer in a world without ballpoint pens.

Not that the mage could not quickly scrawl and pass a note.
A simple Dex success would have hidden the whole thing.

If anyone wishes to attempt a WIS check rather than rely on his own (player) judgmental to how his character would interpret the situation, feel free to roll D20.

Success:
VIEW CONTENT:
It's pretty obvious now, if it was not before, that these four men with cudgels are in the meeting room to keep you from leaving and to monitor your activities. That guy must have been watching Alfonse. They may have been outwardly friendly till now, but it seems they view you all with suspicion.

Failure:
VIEW CONTENT:
Huh? Why is that guy yelling at GERTIE?

Reminder:

You are all in full control of your PCs.

I always try not to arbitrarily skip or negate your actions in play.
The note had a good chance of success ( either roll succeeding would have been enough to avoid detection.)

FILD could try to slip away from the four guys escorting him down the street. Of course, they would likely try to stop him.
I won't just teleport PCs into the WatchHouse scene. He does not know the situation of the other PCs, but that does not mean he has to trust the watch.
100% your call, Alhoon.

Varrus can have Titus do as he pleases, without any special constraints. Nobody has collared him, or even questioned him. At least not yet.

That is why I ran the gloss/timeline advance past you all. I want to make certain the game moves along, but without railroading.

Given the tense scene with GERTIE just now, I will not update that scene until Steve, Van, and Adam all get a chance to post.

Leasing Gem seemed sensible. But if Tom would just be holding the dog,Mir sitting near the dog, I will happily edit that detail.

Gem is trained, after all.

How can Fild slip the guards? He very much like to do so... but I don't see any way.
Fild is surrounded and he has smaller legs than the guard. Even if he manages to slip through them escaping the city would be hard. And he doesn't want to abandon his friends.

Game-world reality is he'll get 4 AOs with a mancatcher. He's not going anywhere.

So, he'll jest to see how serious this is.

Um Gertie never saw the guard coming ? So, naturally she let herself be approached and manhandled? If he wants the paper, ask, she will gladly give it to him.

Nat 20 is the worst possible roll, Steve, so the scene stands as is.

But it was fair to give you a roll.

Not just game reality.

As a fighter, he will realize that this is tricky.

But this is not 3E. AoO is more of a judgment call outside full retreat.

If he wins Initiative versus the men and uses a "withdraw" action rather than full retreat, he could avoid being struck the first round.

However, his movement rate is low, as you note. They might well catch him the next round.

He is small, so if he managed to slip them it's possible he could get into a hiding spot or low area.

It's fine for Gem to be leashed nearby, so Tom can move without holding the lease at his hand.
