Doctor Who the RPG

Post by Drinnik Shoehorn »

Gah! I've been sitting on this for weeks, but promised I wouldn't spill...

Cubicle 7 Games announced at Dragonmeet that they've got the rights to make the Doctor Who RPG from the BBC. It's being written by one of the writers of the Buffy RPG, and is hoping for a summer 08 release. They have the rights to the current series and I think (if I remember right, there's been booze and other conversations of note) are working on the rights to the other Doctors as well.

There is no combat system or life points in the game, but there is conflict and that the sonic screwdriver will not be a game-breaking device.

There is a press release coming out this week with more info.

And, my favourite bit, me and my group have managed to get onto the playtesting list!

Awesome. Congradulations!

Though, post-9th Doctor, you can't exactly play Time Lords...

Apparantly, you can.

I reckon we'll be sent stuff for testing in the new year!

Ok, here's what worries me
It's being written by one of the writers of the Buffy RPG
I bought the Buffy RPG, and I can say that collectivly the writers were lazy and incompetant.

maybe they'll do better making a system from scratch, because the biggest problem with buffy was that they took a generic system someelse had already made, which was fairly unsuited to the source material. those parts of the premade system that fit the setting best, the Magic system, the threw-out and replaced with something worse.

they made no effort to familurise themselves with said source material. and then they talked down to all of their unfortunate customers when questioned on these issues
