Serenity

Post by Drinnik Shoehorn »

I've recently managed to watch all of Firefly and Serenity and I know Soverign Press have released an RPG based on the film.

Has anyone played it? Opinions?

If you look, you should be able to find a discussion of this very thing some months back on this board.

That said, rather than make you look for it, I'll give you a direct link right here: http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/foru ... t=serenity

I had a chance to play a one-evening game and the rules ran much smoother than one would expect. They're pretty simple and don't cover alot so you do need to improvise alot and some of the information is kinda hidden. There are some pretty big gaps in the rules and hopefully an errata is coming for that.

The fan community for the game is pretty strong and there are a tonn of additions.

I have a copy of it in my games store and after reading it I thought it was a great idea and game. But then again I am a huge fan of the series and it wasn't really hard to convince me.
Vote Cthulhu! At least then we know we are going to get screwed.

Firefly is great for inspiration. Unlike other TV series (Farscape) there are so many ways to tell stories without touching on the original characaters. The fact it works on established conventions (westers, sci-fi) make for easy yet fun writing and a great blend of characters.

I did a quick bank-heist tale that ended with a lynch mob following the group away from the system and a running battle ship-to-ship over a forest. It ended badly (botch!!) and everyone crashed but good.
