Just picked this up on DVD. Sad and whimsically horrific, and a damned fine story to loot for Ravenloft usage.

I liked the movie, though the songs were definitly subpar. I don't know what was happening with Elfman, but the musical numbers were often clunky and seemed forced.

My only complaint about the ending was that it feels rushed, like they decided to turn a ten minute sequence into a ten second one (somewhat exaggerating). Otherwise, it's an excellent movie.

Unfortunately, story pacing (heck, story depth) has never been Burton's strong point. I loved the visuals of the film but got the impression that after the conception of the two show-stopper sequences (Emily's resurrection and the big musical number in the bar) the rest of the film was rather loosely blocked in around them.

My little 3-year-old niece loves the heck out of the film though (and Nightmare Before Christmas too)....

I agree with you whole-heartedly, Reggie. I loved the movie, but the ending just ended too quickly for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, though. I did like how the movie ended, but it just seemed like Burton got near the end of the movie and his time/budget ran out...
