Re: Heraldry, flags, and colors for each domain.
My Drakov personal sigil is the Zweifalk. It symbolyze his being both the Kaiser ruling Falkovnia, and the Fuhrer leading its troops.
Re: Heraldry, flags, and colors for each domain.
In the department of perhaps too on point... Nova Vaasa. The black side goes by the flagpole so it doesn't look like a white flag when hanging in a dead breeze.
When I designed them, I made the Mordentish-speaking nations (Rich, Mord, Deme) all lean blueish because they share a language, and chose french blue/UN blue as the inspirational colors. Mordent could have been a royal blue or US blue to be honest, but I was afraid it would compete with Darkon.Mephisto wrote:Why Lamordia, Dementlieu and Mordent
Fair enough. I liked the red sun but wanted to stay well clear of the rising sun cultural landmine. I favor traditional fabric patterns anyway, especially the ones that look like an island, rolling sea, or curling mists.Mephisto wrote:I like the Rokushima flag but I believe each Damiyo should have one and not one as a nation.
These are great! Writing out the heraldic language seems like a legal enchantment. I vaguely remember learning knights could get in trouble if their symbols weren't just so.Tristissima wrote:I've been running the Great Pendragon campagn for a different RPG, and it's got me on quite the heraldry kick! So I used the website I use for that game to spin up several coats of arms for the various realms based on this post. What do y'all think of them?
They are blazoned as so:
Forlorn: Tartan of vert, azure, and gules, a tree eradicated and blasted sable
Barovia: Sanguine,a raven proper langued and membered Argent
Borca: Purpure, a foxglove Argent
Darkon: Azure, a fire gules, an eye sable
Dementlieu: Azure, a pale Argent
Falkovnia: Brunatre, a bend sinister sable, a hawk Or
Lamordia: Sable, a chevron cendree
Mordent: Tierced-in-pale azure, Argent, and sable
You can find them here for now, and I do believe I might post them to my blog, too....
I love the design although I would brighten the purple because purple on black blends in a bit. For Azrael, he could add some rampant badgers to the rose with a stem.Mephisto wrote:I made these two versions of the Sithican flag, using the tudor rose, although I believe that each city in Sithicus uses the crest of it's Lord Speaker or Lady Speaker. Also now probably Azrael has changed the flag to show his own insignia as the pathetic touchy little badger that he is...

OK with the cultural background but Lamordia?Mischief wrote:When I designed them, I made the Mordentish-speaking nations (Rich, Mord, Deme) all lean blueish because they share a language, and chose french blue/UN blue as the inspirational colors. Lamordia, Demetlieu, Mordent, Darkon share the same sea?
Prussian blue anyone?

Nice idea with the Nova Vaasa flag, I made the coat of arms of the families, and also flags that each family may use.

Re: Heraldry, flags, and colors for each domain.
I think I like Tristissima's version more for its simple tricolor design, but here is an alternate Mordent.
Mordent's flag uses the verdigris of the sea and fine copper only wealth can afford and age can refine, the white of the chalk cliffs, and the near black of jet, a sophisticated stone abundant in Mordent worn at funerals and during the prolonged mourning periods. The white splits the verdigris in twain (remind you of something?) and overlaid, as if on a sash, is an empty jet shield. The shield remains plain as a symbol of unity on a flag of war or national diplomacy, but most flags seen flying in Mordent are filled in: individual families and cities complete the shield with their hereditary charges, supporters, and mottos.
See Weathermay below by way of example.

I also made a heraldry for Malkens organization that ridicules the status quo, inspired by the sign of the Clever Gray Malken tavern that gave him his name and the star tattoos used by the underworld of Nova Vaasa that when drawn on both knees they mean "kneel to no one" and naturally the rad for blood.

Re: Heraldry, flags, and colors for each domain.
I really like Mischiefs design for Mordent's flag, I like that it has a marine-like Scottish look on it (at least that is how I see it), but I believe it is too minimal for that era so I placed a griffin in the coat of arms. The griffin was an emblem of valor and magnanimity, but it is used more for the name of the Gryphon Hill which had some signifivance from the years of old.

These two are the coat of arms of the Dilisnya and the Boritsi. The Dilisnya is of a lion, Leo Dilisnyas heraldry from (Fair Barovia adventure) holding a wolfsbane. The Boritsi is of a Castle=protection, Bee=wealth, Cup=symbol of faith
