A 5e Ravenloft Adventure [DMs Guild] ...with pictures!
I thought I'd give out a shout to all you hardcore long-time Ravenloft fans: I've written a sizable adventure for 5e set in the Graenseskov (eastern Barovia) that is inspired by The Beast of Gévaudan, the Allerleirauh (Thousandfurs) fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm, and the 2001 film Brotherhood of the Wolf.
You can find it for sale here: The Beast of Graenseskov
And here's the publisher's release.

Good. Is it loyal to the CoS? Or you go by the setting?Quickleaf wrote:I thought I'd give out a shout to all you hardcore long-time Ravenloft fans: I've written a sizable adventure for 5e set in the Graenseskov (eastern Barovia) that is inspired by The Beast of Gévaudan, the Allerleirauh (Thousandfurs) fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm, and the 2001 film Brotherhood of the Wolf.

I'd say it's mostly impartial, with tidbits the DM can pick and choose from to go either way.alhoon wrote:Good. Is it loyal to the CoS? Or you go by the setting?
For example, I name-drop Nova Vaasa in a couple spots as having merchants traversing Old Svalich Road through the Graenseskov & I mention "invaders from the Mists" having a Wolf-headed God. A DM wanting to run his or her game in the original Ravenloft setting might play those elements up, including Nova Vaasan horse thieves and making the Wolf-headed God of the "invaders from the Mists" the arcanoloth Inajira or Harkon Lukas, Darklord of Kartakass. Whereas a DM observing the new Curse of Strahd continuity might cut out the bits about Nova Vaasa altogether, leave the "invaders from the Mists" as a past event, and leave the Wolf-headed God as a mystery.
The heart of the story isn't affected by these choices.
While there are definitely tie-ins to Curse of Strahd, the adventure is also self-contained both geographically and in terms of its mythology. So you could definitely use it with Curse of Strahd, as part of the greater Ravenloft setting, or even adapt it as a standalone mini-horror setting.

Thanks.
If I may suggest, you should put that info in the product page; that it can be used for both "traditionalist" and "Curse of Strahd" games.

Well, I took the jump and bought it. Minor problem though. The site shows it as Watermarked PDF. It's not. It's a Zip File and I can't open it on my I Pad. The preview is in PDF format though and it looks lovely. A very impressive piece of work.
I was a young man when Barovia first got enveloped by the mist, so all I need to do is find someone younger and more knowledgeable to show me a suitable Zip opening App and how to use it.

Hey, sorry about that! Because of how DM's Guild works (grrr), it defaults the file format type to the FIRST file uploaded, which was my preview PDF. Of course, in order to allow the full preview option, you need to upload a PDF first. I tried setting the format to ZIP after the fact, but OneBookShelf (in it's infinite wisdom...haha) reset the file type to "Watermarked PDF." Anyhow, I've clarified it in the product description.De Montour wrote:Well, I took the jump and bought it. Minor problem though. The site shows it as Watermarked PDF. It's not. Anyhow! I'd recommend Zip Viewer which works well on iPhone and iPad: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/zip-vie ... 70331?mt=8
If you have any trouble with the file, just let me know on here or DM's Guild and I'll sort it out with you.

I took your advice and clarified that it can be used for both.alhoon wrote:Thanks.

Thanks for your support guys. Look forward to hearing how it goes for your groups.

Well done! I'll have to buy it when I get home. I'm likely to pilfer ideas I like from it for my own campaign The part is on their way to Barovia so I'll definitely be interested in seeing what you've done here.

I'll look forward to hearing about your play-through It's definitely meant to have lots of steal-able things as well as be flexible to DMs inserting stuff into the adventure.thepoorman wrote:Well done! I also just updated it with a DM's cheat sheet with quick prep notes, a clue checklist, Tarokka tables, tips on running the Beast, and a decision point flowchart. Basically, a bunch of tools to make the DM's job easier when it comes to handling an event-driven mystery adventure.

Ok, so Quickleaf sorted out my problems with accessing his product. Big thank you to him for that.
About the adventure.
As previously written, it's equally usable in CoS, Ravenloft Setting Barovia or even as a little domain in it's own right.
It looks good and is chock full of interesting NPCs with believable motivations and interpersonal relationships explored at length. Perhaps, for an inexperienced DM, it might be daunting but Quickleaf's addition of a PDF DM Cheat Sheet should resolve that somewhat.
The curse is well thought out and there are twists, turns and red herrings aplenty. The locations are well fleshed out and maps are included. There are a number of events as well that move the story on, to be introduced at set times or if your band of heroes stalls in their investigations.
In short, this product is well worth the price tag. Buy it!
