Re: Birthright: Tuornen OOC
Noted.
AULD OAK ROADSIDE INN SCENE
Adam, RocEtr, Tonybolt:
The friendlies:
Including the ones who were already roused by the Hunstman's speech--
About a dozen zero level types(stout farmers, a blacksmith, Brennan, stable boy, couple of travellers) who look like they can fight if led well and armed (most brought hunting bows, staves, daggers, etc to the meeting but only a handful have any sort of shield or armor).
One of the travellers looks like a fur trader-- wearing a guild badge with an iron bear trap emblem and a fur coat. He looks tough.
Everyone else= women, kids, old folks, babies
The Huntsman is busy ATM, casting a spell outside, conjuring the power of the Storm Lord.
Cormac and Gunnar have time to plan, cast spells or make weapons, scout, build barricades, or whatever.
How much time?
Who knows?
True night has fallen.

Well hopefully the men the Huntsman roused follow his plan of action and don't participate in the actual battle. They should defend the inn, and those who can't fight, from attack if any of the baddies make it past the three heroes. That was the orders he gave the men before he started casting his spell.
At least ten minutes, hopefully..

We'll see how the acting sheriff directs them.
I'll post a map of the inn in a bit.
It's vulnerable to fire, but provides good covers against arrows, thrown spears, tec.
You'll see.
Keep in mind that this is a corssroads inn with a few outbuildings, not a whole town.
The farmers come from nearby farmsteads.

Suppose we will...
Now must continue conjuring the power of the Storm Lord, so that he can smite his enemies with the power of lightning!

I feel I should point out that the Huntsman horse has a a spare short sword, spear, shield and plenty of arrows.

Like at least once every 10 rounds at least
.
Gunnar thinks the idea of barricades is an obvious move to help defend the road house . So will direct those not already taking the "Huntsmens" suggestion(order) to erect them to do so .
Ewan Question: If somebody helped someone that had a heavy crossbow during the fight by just reloading it for him would that allow him to get off 1 shot per round versus the normal 1/2 rate fire for a Heavy Crossbow ?

No once the first ten minutes is up, I won't have to cast it again for another 50 minutes.
During that 50 minutes I have unlimited number bolts to call down but I can only call one bolt a round and that is all I can do for that round.

Re: Birthright: Tuornen OOC
The spell last for 1 turn per caster level.
It takes 1 turn to cast.
The caster can call down one bolt per TURN after that, not per round.
Calling down a bolt does indeed take a full round action (stationary and concentrating)
range is 360 yards/ The bolt strikes from the sky and hits targets on the ground (or in the air).
Damage is 2d8+ 1d8 for EACH caster level.
You don't have to score a direct hit to F somebody up. Anyone within 10 feet radius of the bolt takes damage. Full if no save vs spells, half with save.

Note that the Huntsman does not need to remain still or concentrate in between hurling bolts. He can move and fight for several rounds, and then call down lighting on the tenth round (the turn end/beginning).
He can even cast spells-- just not while actually using the bolts (because calling down a bolt is the full action for a round).

I thought it was 2d8 + 1d8 per caster level?
The caster is then able to call down bolts of lightning. The caster can call down one bolt per turn. The caster need not call a bolt of lightning immediately--other actions, even spellcasting, can be performed; however, the caster must remain stationary and concentrate for a full round each time a bolt is called. The spell has a duration of one turn per caster level. Each bolt causes 2d8 points of electrical damage, plus an additional 1d8 points for each of the caster's experience levels. Thus, a 4th-level caster calls down a 6d8 bolt (2d8+4d8).

It is. I just made a typo. It's fixed.
You clear on how often you can use the bolts, and what you can do in between calling down bolts?

Yeah. I like my version better though..
Still a lot damage in a 10 foot in turn, still brutal and scary as heck.

And you can cast spells, fight, bellow heavy metal songs, etc while waiting for the lightning to recharge.
