How much of the old books do you have access to?

They had a lot of tips on running a game.
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

The Ravenloft Dungeon Master's Guide is a really, really excellent text. It's got plenty of good advice about running the campaigns, even outside the actual rules of Ravenloft.

Thank to my friend who had mastered to Ravenloft I have access at every books of Ravenloft or nearly all. Otherwise me, I have the rule book of Sword and Sorcery in 3.0 translated into french. Not the two books player's Guide in 3.5 and Dungeon Master's Guide in 3.5 , the alone book before them.
But I can read in English, no problem.

HuManBing, you advice me to start with the Dungeon Master's Guide?

Yes, I would. Specifically, the Ravenloft Dungeon Master's Guide. It is for 3.5 rules though, so you may need to update your campaign - or skip over the 3.5 rules part.

Moving this to the General Forum. (the Roleplaying Game forum is for non-Ravenloft RPG discussion)

Also, check out this thread and the links there, including the FAQ. A lot of your questions are already answered there.

I will say however, that "Night of the Walking Dead" is probably the all-time most recommended 1st Ravenloft adventure to run, and it's available free from WotC. (though it's 2nd edition, so you may need to update it to the ruleset you're using.)

And also, Welcome to the site!!

Call of Cthulhu D20 has a good GM section on cinematic techneiques for horror. The recently realeased Pathfinder Gamesmastery Guide is a great resource for GMs. If your running in Pathfinder or D20 the advice, charts and stock npcs (need a brigand, a village idiot, an assasin; they'll alright there) are all worth a look.

Of course you can't go wrong with doing a bit of reading and watching to get you in the right frame of mind as well. The section in the Ravenloft DMG suggesting media to consume is a good guide.

Well, it says it is, anyway, but like most of the early 3.5 Ravenloft books it's not, really.

Ok thank you !

I think I will start with Night of The Walking Dead and The House of Strahd (the second version of the famous scenario of Ravenloft).

Thank you !
