Poll: Mistipedia look

Post by Gonzoron of the FoS »

My wife and I disagree on this point. Which looks better/is more functionally useful....

The current format of Mistipedia, with the catalogue info at the top?
http://fraternityofshadows.com/wiki/ind ... le=Mordent

Or this alternative vesion, with the the catalogue info at the bottom?
http://fraternityofshadows.com/wiki/ind ... ordent_new

Let your opinion be known... (and don't be swayed by how much of a pain it would be for me to change it. ;) )

First and foremost, pick a different color for active links. That blue is pert near impossible to read on a black background.

ETA: For a slightly more constructive suggestion-- the paler blue used for active links on this board might work a lot better than the blue that's there now...

Wow, so far it looks overwhelmingly in favor of the new look. I'll leave the poll open for another few days, and if it remains that lopsided, I'll change it.

I'll change that too, when I get back home where I can do it. (Don't want to install software here, and I need SSH to change that.) I kinda hacked the skin together and didn't notice all the awkward low-contrast places. There are a few other places that need color correction, like the user preference page and the recent changes "Diff" page.

Yup, agree it looks better on the bottom since some of the Catalogue entries can get quite long.

Also for the CSS, what about black background, white to grey (about #CCCCCC) text and red links? Bad? Red can get confusing when there are already red "uncreated pages."

Well, I've given the colors of the default skin a bit of a tweak. What say ye? better? (I still can't figure out how to change the color of the "my preferences, my contributions," etc. links in the upper right. Working on it..)

Are you sure? Looks like you got the My Preferences menu tabs to white already!

Anyway, this is what I see for the colors:

internal link: powder blue
external link: blue
active: gold
visited: a dulled red?

It's visible, heheh. Color coordination can come later, anyway. I'd probably pick varieties of grey, but maybe I'm thinking too boring and gothic.

Yep the new way for me as well... I don't mind the old way but for the sake of sheer utility that information is secondary to what I am looking at and it would be much easier for it to be on the bottom. As for other issues I have none at the moment...

Good job by the way! ;)

Yes, I fixed the My Preferences menu tabs, but I'm talking about the link that take you there. It's still dark blue for me. (And it's neighbors:"my watchlist", "my contributions", & "log out" , as well)

I admire your commitment to genre, :) but shades of grey are a little too close to each other for my taste. Hard to distinguish one from another.

Errr, so can we keep editing catalogue entries in the meantime?

Well you shouldn't be editing the actual catalogue entries at all. That's why it says DO NOT EDIT. But feel free to keep editing below the catalogue entries. When I flip everything, your edits will move above the catalogue entries.

Yes, I meant pages with catalogue entries, not the data itself :). Thanks.

OK, everyone, I have changed the urls for the wiki to the recommended "short form."

I.e.
http://fraternityofshadows.com/wiki/Main_Page

instead of

http://fraternityofshadows.com/wiki/ind ... =Main_Page

I'm trying to figure out how to get both to work, but so far, no luck. Sorry for the inconvenience if anyone bookmarked anything, but better to "rip off the bandaid" now, in case I never figure out how to make both work.
