Post Fanzine Cross-Pollination
Over in the Eberron forums at The Piazza, someone suggested the creation of an Eberron fanzine. In the early planning stages, I thought of QtR and how successful it's been and the quality of content that is presented. That's definitely a testament to the FoS Ravenloft community. I mentioned QtR in the discussion, but it slipped under most people's radar. Jump forward a bit and we discover two other fanzines for classic D&D settings: Wildspace, for Spelljammer, and Threshold, for Mystara. A moderator at the Piazza indicated that there is interest in cross-promotion of fanzines, meaning that Wildspace would promote Threshold and the Eberron fanzine and Threshold would do the same, and so on. He remembered I mentioned QtR and spoke with me as I seemed to be the only one in the discussion who knew it.

So, he asked that I bring up the topic of fanzine cross-promotion with those at FoS. He also invited anyone here to check out The Piazza's Ravenloft forum. If there's any interest in getting QtR promoted more with other D&D communities, Big Mac is the individual I was speaking with.

If I ever do a revision of the last QtR I could put ads to other netbooks in the back.
And advertising on the other forums is a good idea.

Thanks for starting this discussion Ender.

It is actually Chimpman, from the Threshold Magazine team, who proposed cross-pollinisation of adverts between fanzines. He came to the Wildspace team first.

There is also a Greyhawk fanzine, published by people on Canonfire! Maybe they might be interested in this idea too.

I've started a thread about Quoth the Raven # 21 at the Ravenloft forum at The Piazza. (QtR #21 is also a featured story at the Facebook page for The Piazza and the Facebook group for The Piazza.)

I will try to keep an eye out for any new issues, but please feel free to come over and post threads about QtR (or any other FoS projects) yourself.

It's an excellent idea. i'm a big fan of the Greyhawk Oerthjournal (did you know that Paizo Publisher Erik Mona started his publishing career there ?) and the Ravenloft netbooks.

Never heard of the Spelljammer or Mystara fanzines though now I'm interested. There are probably regular netbooks for Dragonlance, and loads for the Forgotten Realms. Planescape has lots of net material thouhg I'm not sure if they have a regular 'zine. Dark Sun has athas.org.

There's also The Planewalker's Codex from Planewalker.com (for Planescape). They only seem to have one issue and it's 3 years old, but their website blog/forum is fairly active (and was invaluable in helping me with a planar aspect of my RL campaign). Their site is apparently having some technical issues at the moment, but hopefully will be back up soon.

I knew Erik Mona had written fan material, but didn't know he started with Oerth Journal. I do know that Paizo has an excellent relationship with the Pathfinder fanzine, called "Wayfinder". If Paizo owned Ravenloft, I'm sure they would have an equally close relationship with QtR.

The Mystara fanzine is called Threshold. They have published 7 issues so far. Threshold has its own Facebook page, Vaults of Pandius hosts the Threshold PDFs and The Piazza provides a private forum for Threshold staff.

The Spelljammer fanzine is called Wildspace: The Spelljammer Fanzine. Wildspace runs its own blog, has its own Facebook page and its own Twitter feed. The Piazza also provides a private forum for Wildspace staff. Wildspace has not made the jump to making PDF issues yet.

The Eberron fanzine (13th House) has also not made the jump to PDF issues yet. (They have been offered a private staff forum at The Piazza, but have not taken up the offer yet.)

I have not noticed a Dragonlance fanzine. I do know they have a podcast, called Dragonlance Canticle, but if there is a fanzine, I've managed to miss it. Mind you, there is so much cool stuff at Dragonlance Nexus, that it would be easy to miss something.

Planewalker does have a ton of cool stuff. I'm struggling a bit with the changes to their URL, so I can't find everything yet, but it is a great website. Planewalker is probably a large part of the reason why the Planescape fan community has stayed so long. Not everyone can have a solid fansite like that (or like Fraternity of Shadows). I hunt out people who like the less popular campaign settings and not having a big fansite can make things a lot harder.

The Burnt World of Athas does a great job. I was a bit sad that they closed Arena (the Dark Sun forum) even though I do hang out more at the Dark Sun forum at The Piazza than I used to hang out at Arena, and even though I would love more people to sign up to The Piazza.
