Re: Dreadpass encounters?

Or maybe the pass itself is to be dreaded. As in, hostile genius locus. The loose scree shifts treacherously underfoot at the worst of times; the scraggly trees' branches clutch at packs and bridles; shadows thicken to mask ankle-trapping holes in the path. The very rocks hate trespassers, and will ...

Re: Tom the Flesh Golem

Question, has Strahd ever waged war since being dead? I have a feeling since he was good while living, imagine him commanding undead.... <.<' Strahd took command of (living) troops a few times when Darkon first appeared and he and Azalin started having border-skirmishes, although between one bit of...

Re: Names of Fraternities in Ravenloft

If you want to give "Fraternity of Shadows" a less-ominous spin, you could always suggest that they call themselves that because they're following in the footsteps of -- i.e. "shadowing" -- great thinkers of the past. You can make up a few long-ago intellectual greats for them to...

Re: On national anthems

Even if they don't have established national anthems, it's likely that several Ravenloft nations have songs that are strongly associated with their ethnic or historical roots. In the more advanced domains, these might derive from operatic works about the domain's founding, while traditional ballads ...

Re: NPC Revisions

He cannot remember: except in dreams and even then only flickering images quickly forgotten. He's cursed to witness his murders, through the eyes of his victims; whenever he dreams. The scarf was his own. I've played around with the idea that Ratik will never find his killer by searching the demipl...

Re: I need curse suggestions for home-brewed DLs

Here we go. Base it off of a Peck. Does anyone remember those? Earth spirits kinda like gnomes. They speak to rocks and the rocks whisper things to them. If anyone is a fan of Drizzt, they may remember Clacker? There actually are pech in Ravenloft, as they appear in a Shadow Rift-based adventure. T...

Re: I need curse suggestions for home-brewed DLs

Glad you like it. :-) Me, I like the idea of this darklord. It sounds like a great concept for a "pocket domain" that could intermittently attach itself to mines and tunnels elsewhere in Ravenloft, allowing unsuspecting miners and spelunkers to wander into the knocker's territory, never re...

Re: I need curse suggestions for home-brewed DLs

Or maybe his pranks, and only his, are the only mishaps that the miners attribute to simple bad luck. No matter how elaborate he makes them, or how unlikely a Rube Goldberg-style chain reaction is involved, the victims always blame it on chance rather than giving him the credit for setting them up f...

Re: Scholar of Decay

I gave 'Scholar' a couple of nods in the NS Gaz and Doppelganger netbook. It's one of my favorite Ravenloft novels. :-)

Re: Unholy Acts

Do mimics even have funeral customs IYC? If they don't consider their own dead to be anything more than garbage, then the PC shouldn't be obliged to treat its carcass otherwise.

Re: Clues needed

What was the bard's real motive for involving the PCs at all, and what do they think her motive for helping them was? Clues that poke holes in the bard's fake story should be dropped first, to build suspicion, before ones that reveal her actual motive or intentions.

Re: Sinkholes of Evil, How Do They Work?

There are positive emotion-sinks too, in places where equally-intense positive emotions have been reinforced for many years. A centuries-old, active wedding chapel might have a high rating for love, happiness, and fulfillment, while a playground full of laughing, playful children might gain a short-...

Re: A Ravenloft Crusade

When I revised the stats for lebendtod in the NS Gaz, I specifically designed them to subvert the blanket rule that undead "always" fall under certain darklords' control. I figured that letting rival necromancers or darklords use lebendtod to infiltrate the ranks of each others' minions wo...

Re: Top 5 Favorite Domains

For that matter, Richemulot isn't a bad choice of places to run a completely non-supernatural plotline about a mundane crime or conspiracy. Just because there are wererats there doesn't mean every adventure has to feature them: Richemulot is the land of character-assassination and blackmail too, and...

Re: Jackie Montarri

Jackie's been around so long, it's unlikely that she hasn't come across that spell previously. If she isn't using it all the time, it presumably doesn't work. Which is only to be expected: a major-league curse applied in vengeance by the most powerful of Vistani tribes shouldn't be something that a ...
