Re: Real life fear/horror/madness

Back when I first started dating LomboDot, I was delighted to find that she was open to trying board games and card games. I set about introducing her to my favorite games. A year later, LomboDot has now established unbeatable dominance in several of our favorite games, including but not limited to ...

Re: Previously-downloadable GC adventures from Wizards?

Okay, then that must have been it. Non delineated text, and print-unfriendly rtf were probably what we had to work with in the days before pdf. In the days of Web 1.0...

I may get around to converting them to pdf at some point.

Previously-downloadable GC adventures from Wizards?

Many years ago, Wizards hosted the Grand Conjunction adventures on their website for free download. I downloaded them once and then more or less forgot about them because I have all the print versions in my library anyway. Now, I have an e-reader and I like the idea of reading the old adventures on ...

Re: Raging Swan Press' Against the Cult of the Bat God

Wow, just finished it. I found it very worthwhile, although more for reasons of color and fluff than necessarily the hard tacks. I'm looking to tweak and run a heavily adapted version of NotWD, so rural whodunit adventures like this are definitely my cup of tea right now. Disclaimer: I am completely...

Re: Raging Swan Press' Against the Cult of the Bat God

I aten't ded, I promise. I did buy the PDF and I'm reading through it now, almost done. It's looking good so far - very redolent of Night of the Walking Dead for atmosphere and "rural gothic whodunit".

I will post more when I'm done but so far I consider this a good buy.

Re: If we pool our money together... (not serious)

I wonder if there's a village nearby with an illusory mansion, and a disdainful lich insisting that he's not "working" there so much as "summering" there.

Re: Awesome player ideas: Dealing with a lich

With a lich, vampire, etc. they are simply humans that became whatever version of the undead. They would still maintain the human instincts That could totally work. However, just for my games, I personally like to distinguish between liches and vampires in that respect. Vampires are still creatures...

Re: Ravenloft alternatives

I never did get to properly "interview" that game system. In the end, I wanted something universal, so it boiled down to Basic RPS, TriStat dX, and GURPS - which won the day.

Re: Random hooks thread

A highwayman is running a classic Robin Hood operation - enriching himself at the expense of tradesmen and travellers, while passing on enough wealth to the impoverished peasants and local churches to keep the rural folks on his side. Now the distant lord has sent out bounty hunters to capture or ki...

Re: Random hooks thread

The Eternal Order has made a tidy profit in an ongoing feud between two land owning families in the Darkonian countryside. Each side has met secretly with the Order to pay handsomely for curses, blessings, and social favors. Recently, some do-gooder cretin has started making peace among the younger ...

Re: Random hooks thread

Disoriented newcomers along the Darkonian borders commonly fall victim to unscrupulous employers, who take advantage of their memory loss and confusion to use them as cheap labor or worse. The Darkonian leadership is supremely unconcerned with the wellbeing of huddled masses of ignorant foreigners. ...

Re: Random hooks thread

A Falkovnian leader is systematically infiltrating and dismantling Darkonian Kargat cells in neighboring domains. He has even inserted an operative in Darkon itself, feeding information back into Falkovnia. These operations have resulted in the capture or deaths of hundreds of Kargat supporting pers...

Re: Ravenloft alternatives

Second the Midnight proposal: it's a good setting that inverts the automatic assumption that the players are on the winning side. It's much more of a "fight the doomed fight" feeling - which is incidentally how I lean towards running the Ravenloft setting anyway. I go with low hit points, ...
