I watched it after it came out on DVD. It was...very strange. Bit gory/profane for my general tastes, but the music was great, the set-pieces wonderfully over the top--and hey, it's got Tony Stewart Head in it.

And who knew Sarah Brightman could be so...creepy?

That is very sad. I find it sooo frustrating, the incorrect view of "people who play D&D." I am a devout Christian, and I find D&D to be a great way of hanging out on a Saturday night with friends (who are a fine mix of religions, including a Pagan) and socializing rather than sitt...

Oh, hey, I never tried arguing with my tv in VtM: Bloodlines. I'm gonna have to try that! Finally got the time/energy to go through Thief 3 again, and I'm back at Shaelbridge Cradle. Yep, it's still the scariest thing I've ever played. I don't generally scare easy, but I have to play that level in t...

Oh, thank you! I'm too poor at the moment to feed my book addiction, but I shall certainly look into this when I have a real job again. :) I've always wanted to read Mrs. Radcliffe!

I gather that Barovian is based on Romanian. If anyone wants anything translated into "Barovian" PM me; I'm fluent in Romanian. :)

Definitely Gothic horror, particularly where the horror is built by what you *don't* see, by sounds and suggestion and chilling glimpses. :)

Nox Arcana has many fun albums just perfect for Gothic gaming. "Carnival of Shadows" and "Winter's Knight" are my two personal favorites. (Though if you use Winter's Knight, watch out toward the end of the CD, lest your players be distracted and begin wondering why the heck you'r...

"Devil in the White City" is a brilliant book--I couldn't put it down! It's one of the few nonfiction books I've ever read that I can say that about. For some reason, the vast majority of nonfiction writers seem to think they have to sound like a textbook, ie, deadly dull. This one, though...

"The Stones of Venice" (Big Finish, Paul McGann, 8th Doctor): Along the twisting, mysterious streets of Venice is a huge, crumbling ducal palace, presided over by a reclusive duke. He is rarely seen by the public, but rumours and whispers say that he is a cursed man. Two hundred years ago,...

Incidentally, if anyone is interested in joining my play-by-post, I could use another player or two. Most of the players I've got thus far are novices to the setting. :)

Fantastic Source for Gothic Plots...

I am about to launch a MotRD play by post game, and I found myself drawing a huuuuuge blank as to what to do for adventures. There are, of course a few (a very few) ready-made adventures to be had in various issues of Dungeon or Dragon magazines, but none of them suit my upcoming campaign--at least,...

Having been insanely business with Other Things (read: work, school, family), I wasn't even aware this was in the offing. I'm very eager to see it! I'm a graphic designer/illustrator as well, and would be happy to donate some work, be it layout (I'm a wiz with Adobe InDesign) or actual art, if it's ...

 The Darkonian Irregulars... :: snicker :: I'm gonna HAVE to use that joke IMC now, since I've got a half-elf PC from Darkon... This is an excellent discussion on how to use poison. I was kind of wondering myself, since this Saturday I have my party coming up against a child (sort of) ermorde...
