The Fiend Folio, while a wonderful critter compilation, was just a planar-based monster tome. The tomes in the "Book of ....." series detail important aspects of only a few creatures, going into more depth than a standard monstrous creature stat block.

I would think that belief points still have a use, although your players probably wouldn't like them in 3.5e if they didn't like them in 2e. Personally, I liked the idea that players were rewarded for sticking to their beliefs. Not only did they gain the points, but it incited some really good role...
