Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
Yeah. Strahd is Movie Dracula. Drakov is Saxon Propaganda Vlad Dracula. Gundar might actually be closer to Book Dracula, but I am not prepared to argue very hard for this. I'd argue against that last one, Book Dracula is still much more charming and cultured person than Gundar who I'm given to unde...

Re: Monster Party Book 4 Commentary.
AN Chapter Nine: Florence hits Mirri with a “Freedom of Movement” spell which I've talked about previously in this book. It is a “touch” range spell, (hence why she isn't able to cast it on James after he goes into the water) and, well let me quote the relevant passage from the D&D rules via the...

Re: Monster Party Book 4
Monster Part Book 4: I slither like a viper and get you by the neck. Chapter Nine: But dear God, you're the only North Star I would follow this far... As the different members of the group found various secret doors leading out of the chambers they'd been teleported into, they rediscovered one anoth...

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
But "deeply suspicious of magic" doesn't mess well with Material. We have Talons going through magical rituals, and possessing tons of magic items. Thousands of them. In death unchained there are literally 3000-4000 +1 weapons in the hands of the Talons of Lekar. There are 800-1000 swords...

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
Would you put it beyond Drakov to try and create a situation in which the enemy would come to him? Muck diplomacy, muck the Core, muck the world. You think you can stop me? Let's do this. No? Then I'm going to bag all of your leaders, all of your priests, all of your mothers, all of your children, ...

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
This last bit got me thinking: those exact reasons applied to crossbows as well, only in regards to the longbow. So if Vlad doesn't have an issue with crossbows in the hands of his soldiers (he doesn't; it's the officers and Talons that carry longbows), then what's his issue with firearms? Is it an...

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
Agreed. But does Drakov know that? His army, as far as I know, never encountered this phenomenon (Azalin closing his borders) before. If that is true, then it's an ace in Azalin's sleeve to be sure. For some reason I thought Azalin called up a wall of skulls to close his borders. Huh. I'm wrong. So...

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
There comes the slave raiding parties (if you go for them, I don't) and a few other things: - The treaty came into effect IIRC after Drakov allied with Maloccio that rules much of Invidia politically. - The treaty involves domains that 1. love intrigue or 2. have political leaders that aren't darkl...

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
Agreed, I see him similar to an inept 3rd World military dictator who knows he needs tanks and planes and other modern weapons but does not really know how to go about it. He buys hoards of obsolete weapons that he has difficulty supplying and maintaining and can get kicked around the block by smal...

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
haha Yeah, I can see that too. Then it's back to the drawing board again, just like the tank wars of both World Wars. But eventually, the laughs will stop. Depending if you care enough or not... One day by sheer random chance Falkovnia will hit on a monsterous mechanical weapon that actually works....

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
I see the ministries much like you do. The natives are too illiterate to produce excellent mages or scientists and he has nothing to offer highly competent foreign spellcasters or scientists so he has to rely on second raters. He probably has some highly competent generals however. The two main fai...

Re: the Falkovnian slave trade
I'd say that 90-95% of the demi-humans in Falkovnia are slaves, and the other are bandits/freedom fighters who are trying to resist Drakov or recently freed slaves who are making a run for various borders as anywhere (okay maybe not the Shadow Rift) is better for them than Falkovnia, though I think ...

Make sport not war....
Been playing a lot of Blood Bowl recently, and a thought occurs. I know they have the required Scottish games in Forlorn, and horsey sports in Nova Vassa, possibly some Sking or dog sledding in Lamordia but has there ever been anything apppoaching a Ravenloft version of the Olympics or even just a C...

Monster Party Book 4: I slither like a viper and get you by the neck. Chapter Eight: Sweet perfumes of incense, graceful rooms of alabaster stone... “This, this is where she came from...” James informed the rest of the group. He'd tracked Tiyet's trail with all his traditional skill, and since both ...

Re: Monster Party Book 4 Commentary.
AN Chapter 8: Well it’s finally done. Sorry folks had a vacation, well a vacation and a lot of other BS excuses for taking so long to get this chapter up. Now lets talk magic. The spell on the “trick door” at the start of this chapter is “Holy Word” a cleric spell that causes everyone of a non-good ...
