Re: Touch of Death (3.5 conversion) Help
It must have been in an Ask Azalin then. EDIT: But apparently I'm wrong. Oh well. After 15 years, I'm bound to misremember some things... Sorry! I prefer him being LE, I must say. I think it fits best with his personality (the rigid self-control, the obsession, keeping his word, the possessiveness o...

Re: Touch of Death (3.5 conversion) Help
Where is he listed as CE? As in, what is your source?
Because (while there's a bit of variation, some of which has had errata), he's meant to be LE.

Re: Duke Gundar
Do you happen to know why he didn't really get a mention as being back among the unliving in the gazeteers? You would think several of the nearby Darklords would take notice of something like that. Or that his plans would be worth mentioning. Almost all of the dread possibilities were cut from the ...

Re: Duke Gundar
I would like to point out that Gundar can still be older than Strahd while being an ancient vampire. I'd also like to point out that an ancient vampire and an Ancient vampire are not always the same thing. I am not however debating that if you don't like Gundar running around in your game, don't hav...

Re: Touch of Death (3.5 conversion) Help
The main problem is that as written there's very little opportunity for the PCs to learn any of the backstory. Since it's such a good backstory, that's a pity, and you should find ways to communicate it. It's also a mystery with only one suspect. It also benefits from adding in encounters that have ...

Re: Duke Gundar
I actually think that the look of relief of Gundar's face when Medraut was killed speaks volumes of hidden depths and interesting history. I believe that originally the novel Death of a Darklord was supposed to go into Gundar's death in more detail, but it was changed in production until we got the ...

He's still a brutal lunatic.
He doesn't age. Unless you take the BoS article to be accurate. Gundar aging has never been canon, and was made up in the BoS.

Re: Duke Gundar
He's not *in* Gundarak. I think he was revived in Darkon, and he's hunting Dominiani for revenge. That's a bigger drive than getting Gundarak back. If you want to stick him in Valachan, you are free to. He's also not necessarily getting any older. Although you keep saying it, that's completely nonca...

Re: Historical Questions
A million seigneur, ecuyer, chevalier, barons, vicomtes, comtes, and marquis, yes. "Knight" in this case basically just means they're landowners supported by the labour of others. "Squire" is another. Also, the bottom 3 ranks don't actually count as nobility. They're just gentry....

Re: Historical Questions
Somewhere between 15 and 30 peasants per noble, depending on the quality of the field and the opulence of the noble's household during the Middle Ages. As climate and farming techniques changed (and court structures, for that matter), the number varied. In England according to the Domesday book, it ...
