Re: ravenloftian demi & para-elementals?

What do dread elementals do anyways? I haven't ever really used one in my campaigns so kind of a weird question i guess. I could see Ash being a ravenloft elemental or smoke... Initially they didn't really "do" anything much, as they weren't actually a continuous presence in the Land: the...

Re: Question on the Nocturnal Sea Gazetteer

It was, indeed, Colin's off-the-cuff explanation for why the elderly Ezekiel got his name wrong. There never was a "Colin Jr.". OOC, it's a demonstration of how "Josiah"'s ruses aren't always 100% airtight - Colin is very shrewd and good at improvising, but he's not a genius - an...

Re: Shutter island

My only other quibble: would he really be locked away as dangerously insane for what he did? under the circumstances, I think it was almost understandable. Certainly a temporary insanity plea would have worked. I wondered if that defense didn't exist back then, but wiki says it was actually quite p...

Re: Transhumanism in Ravenloft

"Transhumanism gone wrong" is essentially what the Doppelganger netbook posits as the likely origin for dread doppelgangers. At least, that's what the dopps' own "Divinity of Masters" dogma claims, and their alchemical lodges work to take it a step further, promoting trans doppel...

Re: Dragons in Ravenloft

One alternative nobody's mentioned yet would be if a dragon were lost in the Mists themselves, preying on Mist-led travelers and Mistborn to survive. Once in a century or so it might stumble over a cluster or island, and wreak havoc, only to be driven off by one of the powerful darklords or tricked/...

Re: What creatures are hurt by obsidian?

While it's counter-intuitive that it'd be were tigers , not werejaguars, that obsidian would harm, it does make sense from a Rule-Of-Scary perspective. Lycanthropes' damage resistance is supposed to make them more frightening, after all, and a werejaguar's typical victims would be from Mesoamerican-...

Re: Claude's Curse?

To toss in an idea from a completely different angle, maybe Claude's curse could be rooted in his rat side more than his human side. I've kept pet rats for years, and one interesting possibility for Claude might be if, like many male rats, he was naturally inclined to be a bit lazy and easy-going, p...

Re: Desert themed domains?

YMMV, but I think it's important to be sure that Ankhtepot's curse isn't just limited to those drawbacks inherent in his being a mummy. If the only grounds for his unhappiness is a condition he shares with dozens of minions, then it's not really his curse: it's a whole lot of people's, innocent or g...

Re: Desert themed domains?

Angel by day, monster by night? Why the duality? Is he some kind of fallen deva or archon? Or is it just a "Don't look behind the curtain" scenario used to impress the populace? I'm really intrigued by this guy now, where can I go to learn more? Diamabel was a human religious fanatic, who...

Re: Desert themed domains?

Isn't Ankhtepot's curse to forever be denied the mortality he lost, even with his ability to kill a living person and become mortal until sunset (when Ra turns His Gaze away)? Being cursed to never be lord of more than a backwater is Harkon Lukas IIRC. But having only a tiny flyspeck of a village i...

Re: Desert themed domains?

If anything, G'Henna reads most like something out of old-school pulp fantasy, like the original Conan short stories: over-the-top levels of stark desolation, terrain features that look like monsters and arches and bones, mysterious canyons where nameless monstrosities prowl, whatever. Like if Yagno...

Re: Scholar of Decay

Jacqueline's curse only makes her transform if she's genuinely in love with someone. If she just likes them, or has the hots for them, or feels genuine but non-romantic affection for them, it's not an issue.

Brazen bull? Why not a brazen hawk, given Drakov's falconry fixations? The acoustics would need adjustment, that's all.

Jacques appeared on the Renier family tree from the Black Box. Jacqueline killed her human husband after she had his kids, which is common for women in the family.
