Re: Bleak House

I believe Stuart Turner once mentioned that he ran Bleak House as a sequel to his campaign, but there's no summary to how it turned out. Perhaps if we engage in a séance and prepare a mystick cage we can summon him for some DM do-and-don't tips? Yes indeed, I did run Bleak House once. After I finis...

Re: 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

What in the world was Gaston's plotline supposed to be? From the published journals, Caine, Isaiah, Heinrich, and Ilyich all got their "day in the sun," and Max's backstory with the Dachine family was tantalizing... but I have no clue what Gaston was supposed to do. All I can figure out i...

Re: 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

I don't think this is in any way reflected in rules changes; he means narratively, PCs are somehow aware of the horrors that lurk in the dark and nasty places of the world, when most others are willfully ignorant, which is fundamentally how almost all RPGs and horror fiction works anyway. An NPC fi...

Re: 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

How did you manage to write for a world that was so obviously artificial, and sometimes so blatantly dull? - Didn't you guys have the desire to fix some of the most blatant silliness? Like, place names, to begin with... :) Well - I certainly don't agree with the premise behind the question. The wor...

Re: 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

What were your favorite domains? It's no surprise that my answer is Dementlieu - like Ryan, I love the Dominic/Brain duality, which is the perfect setup for screwing with PC's minds. I also prefer the slightly more modern Ravenloft settings, so these all play well together in that domain. Other fav...

Re: 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

Quick question for Stu: Your campaign journals were one of my favorite things about the SotK site. At this point I doubt you're up for finishing those [/understatement], but could you share some of the high points of the finished campaign? ...but I didn't answer your question, really. Let's see if ...

Re: 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

On some of the miscellaneous questions that have come up: What are your thoughts on the recent incarnation of Ravenloft, split up and used for parts in the Shadowfell, rather than as a cohesive world? I can't say I've kept up much with this at all. While I've played a bit of 4E, and can see positive...

Each of the Kargatane actually has a CD archive of the whole site, including the messageboards, as it was at the end of Halloween 2003 - I still occasionally have a browse when I'm feeling nostalgic.

Re: 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

For the others, are you still gaming? Yep, still gaming - with the same group of people I've been gaming with for the last 17 years (!). Although it has to be said that with 5 of the group having kids under 5 years old, the games are much less frequent now - at best, once a month, and often less th...

Re: 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

Here's a little snippet of history - the post to the Ravenloft Mailing List that prompted the creation of the Book of Souls: Date: Tue, 25 Feb 1997 01:36:00 -0600 (CST) From: Christopher Dale Nichols <cdnichol@panther.bsc.edu> Subject: [RAVENLOFT] - A Proposal. 15th Anniversary of the Book of Souls Netbook!

Greetings from the Kargatane, A creepy ghoul whispered the other day that this Halloween happens to mark 15 years since the Kargatane released The Book of Souls netbook! So after a few discussions with the Kargatane, a bit of nostalgia, and a consultation with the unsettled prophetic inmate in the a...

As for Stu Turner and the Andrews Cermak and Wyatt, they haven't been active in gaming since the Kargatane dissolved half a decade ago, as far as I know. Howdy all, I'm still checking these forums occasionally - it's sort of nice seeing that the interest in Ravenloft continues, and that the net-mat...

Just a quick note re:DBman - while it is very easy to install and use, I did make amendments to the code to make the Catalogue do what it does (like cross-reference between entries). I can't remember if I sent the DBMan program files as well as the data files a couple of years ago - but if not, feel...
