George R.R. Martin - Whom I revere as the writing god. Not too much gothic in his works, other than the horrible nature of some of his characters and The Others. H.P. Lovecraft - Enough said. Ray Bradbury - See above. Bram Stoker - I still have to break out Dracula at least once a year. Tim Lucas - ...

So TSR was considering ending the line in 95/96? Then it was being considered to end in Wotc? Then probaly by Hasbro's Wotc, and now probaly by WW.

Perhaps all this should give us some hope, our beloved little line has quite the resilience.

Just curious for speculations' sake. Do you think Ravenloft still would have declined if TSR was never bought out by Wizards?

The fact is that I have no desire or intention of putting myself in the "criminals'" shoes, whether it be actual criminals or just someone who likes to dress up like a punk or a gang-banger. Clothing has nothing to do with how a person acts, or if they are a criminal or not. I'm simply ho...

But sit in the "criminals" shoes for awhile and perhaps you would have more sympathy for them. Nope. Not going to happen. I fail to see how this post contributes anything to the discussion. By "criminals" I wasn't refering to serial killers, or a person attempting to wound or ki...

This topic is very biased and will never come to a complete agreement on all parts, so I hope no one gets too worked up over this. Yes, I say biased because this is a topic where everyone had been forced to draw their bias due to their paticular growing up. Not to go into detail on the Cincinnati ra...

I can just see it now. Heading to the seedy part of town, navigating a maze of dark alleys making sure you aren't followed, three password protected doors, 300 pound bodyguards to search you at each door for a wire or a bugged d20. Broken knees and horse heads. Really though, I see this as strict as...

I think the police in Cincinnati should have to follow that example. I swear it's their instinct to start firing before they turn their police lights on.

Thanks for digging up that info so I didn't have to Joel. :) Sitting here reading that article Drinnik linked has left me in a downcast mood. I think I'll go sit outside in the sun and read a bit. Having horror/fantasy fiction as a big part of your life can sometimes leave you desensitized to death ...

If you kill someone, and the State can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you did it, then you die. Thats where it's tricky though. Beyond reasonable doubt for one person may be different than to another person. Even the techniques (such as DNA testing) that we rely much on are falliable as nothi...

In my opinion I think life sentences are crueler than death. I would take death over a 20 year sentence, and would have to think about it for a 10.

Man is but an animal, caging them doesn't reabilitate them.

...but then again I feel the same way about working.

Completely agreed. I've been a huge fan of Ravenloft even since I first discovered it in my early teens (I'm 23 now). Sadly I've never even been able to take part in a Ravenloft campaign. There are some D&D groups scattered across my area but I never settled for their "super drow with a sen...

Good read, I'm suprised your players didn't get into it. Perhaps you could sit down with them and share the same things you've put into words here, or just have a talk with the first player who you said really loves the setting, try to get her to help you with the other players. Regardless, I think ...

Sounds like a paradise for Dracula's Renfield. Perhaps, unless the flies have actually formed a hive intelligence and decide to kill Renfield using sheer numbers. Do flies actually have any sense of community? I always thought they were independent, simply appearing together when there are things t...
