Re: What is Ravenloft missing?

My answer would be a mediterranean sea. While the geography of the Core was a good way to keep the setting geared toward a "weekend in hell" type of setting, I always had the feeling that transportation around the core where really slow for PC that want to go explore many domains. And it w...

Re: Campaign exploring all the realms of Ravenloft?

I would suggest taking the 3.5 book with a grain of salt as it has some mechanical imbalances that don't work that well. If you find it, go for the 3e book. The gazetteers are excellent. The 3e book is here if you want https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/2478/Ravenloft-30 But considering that you ...

Re: Campaign exploring all the realms of Ravenloft?

If you want to do a grand tour of Ravenloft, I recommend that you get the five Ravenloft Gazetteer from 3e. They are the best description of a place in an RPG that I have ever seen and give you the idea of the culture, food, fashion, flora and fauna of a domain. There is also explanations on how the...

Re: [Kickstarter] Kaidan campaign setting (PFRPG)

Thank you! I received everything and I liked what I saw. I'll take a look at the new tiers option and see what I can do for you.

Re: [Kickstarter] Kaidan campaign setting (PFRPG)

That seem interesting project.

This remind me that I was a Bronze patron for the last project of Kaidan. What happenned with the pdf of last time? I would like to get the result of my precedent contribution before making a new one.

Re: 5e announced!

The WoTC character builder is part of the D&D insiders package subscription deal which also include access to Dungeon magazine and Dragon magazine. While I think Pathfinder books sell more than 4e book, I agree that the subscription model of WoTC seem to be a good way to make profit and they per...

Re: 5e announced!

Just a thought, but perhaps the long hiatus between 2e and 3e actually helped 3e sales. People (at least me) were more receptive for anything as a new D&D edition after the long time without support than they would be now.

Re: 5e announced!

Pathfinder, using the OGL sells better than 4e.  And I was wondering 3 years ago why they didn't give an OGL like 3rd edition again. Well... because it outsells their main line. Truth is, with all the venom against WotC, with the OGL they were far more generous than they could survivibly...

Re: 5e announced!

Just look at the D&D computer games that come out. All the ones I know of are 3.5 e, I know of no 4e based computer games. That means the people who make a living on this figure it will sell better based on 3.5e instead of 4e. I wouldn't read that much into that. WoTC had trouble with Atari who...

Re: Spain in Ravenloft..?

I think it is in Spectre of the Black Rose that we saw Malocchio's inquisition prey upon an unsuspecting Invidian village. I would be curious to learn about those inquisitors, I never saw them in any other canon source. As for the sea, if you go toward the Invidian route, you could do a big bay that...

Re: Introducing New Players to RL

While I agree with all the pacing suggestions above, it might be advisable to warn players who are new to Ravenloft that things are going to be a little more story-driven than they might be used to. I began a campaign lat week with 2 RL vets, 2 players that had never played the setting, and one mor...

Re: Spain in Ravenloft..?

For my part, I envision Invidia as an hybrid between spain and southern italy. The pastoral background of the land mesh well in my opinion. On the others hand, the lack of religiosity of the country can go against your vision of spain.

Re: Introducing New Players to RL

For me, Ravenloft is more about character development (PC and NPC alike) than in any other setting. The slower pace and lower magic lend itself well to develop relationship and characters. The gothic elements help too, particularly the curses tailor made to the character of someone. This is in contr...

Re: Printing Presses?

Other question, what about the book publishing industry? Dementlieu seems to have a good book publishing industry taht would imply more than a dozen printing press in the core.
