Re: Van Richten

My players encountered him in the course of a vampire hunt. They were working the case from opposite angles and encountered one another while digging up leads - they teamed up to finish the hunt together and ended up working with one another fairly frequently throughout their careers (as the party w...

Re: Learn the basics of the ravenloft setting as a whole?

What you want is the 'Domains of Dread' sourcebook for 2E. It gives you an excellent entry point into Ravenloft, detailing the lords, the domains, and the special rules for the setting. You can find it at this link on Drivethrurpg, which has it in pdf or pod: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/175...

From what I hear, it sounds like it would be best if they did leave her out, as the new setting doesn't seem as ripe for complex characters.

Re: Review thread of VRGtRL 5e

This isn't all bad news, I told my players that if the book turned out awful I would run a short 'Abbot and Costello go to Ravenloft' style game with the new content, so that should be fun.

Re: Ask me anything about VRGTR! (Spoilers)

I haven't heard anyone mention her, is Merilee Markuza in the book? If so, I'd be very curious about the treatment they gave her character.

Weren't the Vistani mentioned in one of the Planescape products, just in passing? I could have sworn ...

Re: Kolchak the Night Stalker

The "Night Stalker" remake was terrible, it had none of the charm of the original. I think most of us here loved the original series and the two movies; I once frequented fanfiction sites where I found some excellent (and a lot of terrible) material to help pick up where the show drops off...

Playing your real selves

So, I've been GMing for almost 25 years and most of my gaming group has been playing for 15+; but none of us have ever played ourselves - truly ourselves - in a game before. I don't mean "Imagine what you'd be in this setting and make yourself", but actually run a session in which the grou...

Re: January "Little Fears" Contest

Because we were slow to get entries I have extended the contest until the 14th. If you're sitting on the fence about entering I encourage you to take a chance. If nothing else you get your ideas out there for other people to make use of.

Re: January "Little Fears" Contest

You've got a week left, give or take. (If I don't get 4 entries I'll extend the contest another week)

Re: The City of Ravenloft

I'm not sure I like the idea of a King, I'd prefer a more modern Governorship, (Lord Mayor, something of that like) myself. Mind you, a Kingship would work well into some of the Lords' curses ... perhaps the King's power is severely limited and in many ways he is only king in name? I kind of like th...

On the other hand, this project does seem to be picking up some nice momentum, I'd love to see it flushed out in greater detail.

Re: The City of Ravenloft

I'll have to give some thought to Bleutspur, the sewers are certainly an option, but if I can think of something else I'd go there - so as not to crowd the sewers too much. The Nightmare Lands are easy enough, as they exist in a dream world; the Shadow Rift might exist in a similar other place acces...

Re: The City of Ravenloft

Jack of Tears: this is obviously old ground for you. Good ideas you got there, must say. What was the end result of this "experiment" of yours, do you think? Good, bad, ugly? It has been 7 years or thereabouts since I ran this campaign, so there is a lot I don't remember. While the game l...

Re: The City of Ravenloft

I think it would be better to create completely new domain rulers within each 'quarter'/precinct of a city, each as a separate domain - and not dither with the existing domain rulers and domains, and include that as part of Ravenloft, not instead of. Actually, making all of Ravenloft into one city,...
