Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft
Of course there is content that I do enjoy as well in the new book. Most of what Jester has written in his review as the good and the beautiful is spot on for me, yet again. If the purpose of the product was to cater to the vast majority of the 5e audience, which is people who have played CoS and wh...

Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft
WotC had to go with something totally new with Ravenloft. Giving us Richemulot exactly like it was in the Gazetteers but with 2 different dread possibilities, 1 adventure hook, 5e stats for Jaquiline and Louise would be... nothing. I would frankly feel cheated if 3/4 of the book I paid for were inf...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
I might be a too salty and mind you I'm fairly "new" to the setting than most of you guys, I've only entertained it for about 5 years or so, but I'm under the impression that Wes Schneider while well delved in the history of Ravenloft is in no way caring of it but quite fond of making the ...

Re: Fear, Horror and Madness checks conversion to 5e
I've been wanting to do something akin to this for my Pathfinder campaign as well, though they're early in, so I don't have to worry about it quite at the moment. For me though, I'm more worried about mechanics that might inform roleplay, rather than mechanics to dictate reactions. So in my case, p...

Fear, Horror and Madness checks conversion to 5e
Hey ya'll. I'm preparing for my upcoming 5e Ravenloft Campaign and I was wondering have you guys ever converted the fear, horror and madness checks to 5e? If so what have you done to implement them in your games? I'm mostly interested in the mechanical aspect of the above checks, as the roleplaying ...

It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenloft?
Joël : I won’t reveal who the darklord is (but it’s a known and loved Ravenloft NPC return, yeah!). Half the people think is he uninteresting and bland, the other half do admire him as some kind of rock star like icon. You probably have guessed by now who that darklord is? Someone with a harpsichor...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
Is the Gentleman Caller mentioned ? I saw a mention in the flavor blurb intro text, but I'm not sure I saw his name elsewhere. His metaplot is clearly to as important as before. FoS Guys? Not by name, but I think I spotted him on page 83. What do you make of the reference to the "Mysterious ge...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
Hey Joël, I do have some questions. First of, as everything has become an Island of Terror, or isolated domains or whatever the terminology might be in the book, is there any reason behind it ? Is there any concurrent metaplot or otherwise plot device that would explain such a radical change or does...

Re: Trying to flesh out my 5e ToUD Campaign. In need of help
I have the Barovian equivalent as 732 BC. Looking over things more closely, it appears that I took the Greyhawk-Ravenloft correspondence via Azalin, who leaves Oerth in 391 CY and is transported to 542 BC Barovia. It's strange for me, because tbh I never thought correlating dates outside of Ravenlo...

Re: Trying to flesh out my 5e ToUD Campaign. In need of help
If you go through the madness of creating a correlating timeline Yes indeed, I love continuity  . But again I feel like a correlating timeline is just in regards of the Barovian Calendar in this case no? Which I think is adopted by every domain of the Core. I personally chose 760-770 BC be...

Re: Trying to flesh out my 5e ToUD Campaign. In need of help
Doesn't Vecna enter Ravenloft in 750 BC ?For what it's worth, I did my best to correlate BC years to DR (FR) and CY (Oerth). Based on what I could come up with, "Die, Vecna, Die!" (in which he escapes Ravenloft) takes place in or around 742 BC.

Re: Vistani vs. Gentleman Caller
Guess it boils down to lack of content beyond the GJ and nothing else tbh. Really curious how the new RL product will treat major NPCs of RL cosmology, but then again I'd lie if I believed for a second that's what is going to happen, knowing everything is gonna be an Island of Terror after that.

Re: Trying to flesh out my 5e ToUD Campaign. In need of help
Eventually, a meeting with Madam Eva might also be in order. Not only because she wants the Dukkar back in his cage, but because the Gentleman Caller is pursuing her with the goal of reproducing with her and creating the most powerful Dukkar ever. She can drop some serious lore if she feels like it...

Re: Trying to flesh out my 5e ToUD Campaign. In need of help
The Falkovnia-Invidia alliance and its threatening of the Treaty of Four Towers is something you could point to introduce by Malocchio by name. Also such a good plot point. I have to admit I'm kinda over my head here. While I've read the lore extensively over the years, I've never really sat down t...
