Re: Is Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft worth getting if you own all the 2E/3E books?

I think it had a good I'Cath and Bluetspur reinterpretation, and I didn't mind Kalakeri (though prefer the original Sri Raja). But that's it.

Re: Movies that have that Ravenloft feel

While too nonsenicle to really have a Ravenloft fell, the Lucio Fulci 'Gates of Hell' trilogy (City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, House by the Cemetary). His style was very much dream-like, with story being secondary to terrifying and enthralling the audiance. In a way, this makes it great for som...

Re: Additional monsters for Hazlan

I like the idea about Dal Quori, it does make sense considering their ties to Nightmarelands and Bleutspur. I like Eberron getting a little love. For Rashemen and Thay, I don't know much but I know their is the ice/snow elemental the Orglash. Considering its a land based on the idea of acknowledging...

In terms of a 10th regalia, to fit the Gwytune, perhaps the Tome of the Erlking, said to contain the history of the Shadow Fey, including who they were before their enslavement by Gwydion.

Re: Falk-fury rages on!

I figure hags have the role of a pseudo-empowerment for the abused women of the domain. Any green-hag or annis-hag could create a coven from women looking for mutual protection, with some even seeing their only way to success being to get the ear of a Talon by becoming a favored mistress of one. Jus...

Re: Falk-fury rages on!

While I do tend to favor the 'Horror of Facism/Militarism' flavoring of Falkovnia (complete with WW2/Nazi-party connotations), I do find that this tends to overpower the other monsters that could be used in falkovnia. After all, according to Gazetteer 2, they have not only plenty of dire animals but...

Re: Lamordia: Inspirations, Legends, and Plothooks

I noice from the maps that some of the islands between Lamordia and the Jagged Coast of Darkon seem to blend into each other, with one island seeming to be split between domains (a rather long, thin one). Claims to these many islands would be a source of tension with the nation, nevermind the cultur...

Re: Lamordia: Inspirations, Legends, and Plothooks

While not the biggest fan of 5e, I did like some of the ideas for its Lamordia, including playing up the effect the cold has on peoples lives and the landscape itself. And like you said Speedwagon, a good theme besides mad science is man's attempts to tame and conquer nature, with mixed results. Ple...

Re: Lamordia: Inspirations, Legends, and Plothooks

As far as we can tell, if you go with the whole 'makes-a-model' theory for how the mists and domains work, then Lamordia seems to be a fairly accurate recreation of Mordenheims home country, with the changes only being Von Aubecker and the lack of history. That we don't know what setting (if any) he...

Lamordia: Inspirations, Legends, and Plothooks

Still doing this, a sorta Domain-of-the-Month. This time, let us explore the northern domain of mad science, Lamordia. Based around Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the domain has often felt kinda...one note to me, and I've had trouble isolating Adam and Mordenheim as darklords just becauce in a land fu...

Re: Ravenloft Product Quotes List

I noticed that the FoS-Gazetteers, unlike the canon ones and some FoS projects, does not have choice quotes for the sections. While this cannot be changed, I still thought it would be interesting to look up quotes that might be appropriate for the sections, or at least to the subject matter. For exa...

Re: Kartakass: Inspirations, Legends, and Plothooks

While Kartakass is a more rural domain which doesn't have noble families, notable families could still be put in, filling some niche or being a good spokey encounter or adventure. Cosma The Cosma family began simply as hunters and fur-trappers, making a decent living selling to Barovian merchants. A...

Re: Ravenloft Product Quotes List

It has also the QtR article quotes... that is insane!!!! :) Is number 1753 Darwin's quote really paraphrased? :) Thanks! And yes, that quote is actually a paraphrasing of the contents of his treatsies on evolution. He never said that word-for-word. The spirit is their but he never directly said it.

Ravenloft Product Quotes List

I am proud to announce that I have finished the edited draft of a project I have been working on: a record of all the different quotes used in the preface of Ravenloft products, such as those from Poe or Shakespeare. This record has many redundant entries as I have divided the record into tabs based...

We have a previous thread on this. Props to Mephisto for his list of music for the domains and many faiths.
