Re: Is Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft worth getting if you own all the 2E/3E books?

There is a 2e Guide to Transylvania an accessory for Masque of the Red Death sourcebook of Gothic Earth Oh, yes, thanks. I've got that one. I was just wondering if anyone had done some more material on the forums. Also, I'm after a castle for Dracula that's on par with Castle Ravenloft (but not Cas...

Re: Is Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft worth getting if you own all the 2E/3E books?

I believe the majority of writers in this forum use Pathfinder or 3/3.5e D&D rules. There are some exceptions though as it is evident in some QtR articles that use 2e AD&D and some write about 5e (I think I haven'twitnessed anyone using 4e though). In general though this forum is mainly bas...

Re: Is Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft worth getting if you own all the 2E/3E books?

Personally I wouldn't buy it, as it has its own canon different from the 2e/3e, but since you have made your own changes in the campaign you might find some ideas there useful. Following are my comments in italics Thanks for the comments. That was helpful. My verdict is that it is only worth gettin...

Is Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft worth getting if you own all the 2E/3E books?

I’ve been a long time fan of Ravenloft and own most of the 2E and 3E books. I’m still playing D&D 3E and my main games are a Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms campaign that have had occasional forays into the Domains of Dread over the years. I’m thinking of trying out 5th Edition D&D, though, an...

Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?

Nowhere has it ever been said that he is one of the most powerful in the multiverse. He was very strong for Greyhawk, moderate power for Forgotten Realms, the planes, etc. Some of the Circle of Eight were as low as 12th level if I remember correctly. Mordenkainen is (in)famous, that does not necess...

No one else going to mention that the Mad Mage is Mordenkainien?

735 BC would equate to about 584 CY so Mordy would be pretty powerful around that time. Maybe a better choice would have been Bucknard - apparently he goes missing in 579 CY.

Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?

Thanks for that. If you don't mind gettin' down and dirty, then you could offer some, uhh, "ingredients" to the FoS in exchange for some answers. They always seem to have somebody lurking over our shoulders. Just leave it on the table. It'll be gone before you have a change of heart...;) I...

Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?

Hi folks,

Where is it referenced that I6 Ravenloft is set in 528 BC ? Just trying to find the canon source. Is it in the 2E Domains of Dread?

Thanks

Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?

Does Curse of Strahd mention a Barovian Calendar year it is set in? If not, I was thinking, maybe Ravenloft has gone through it's own "Sundering" like the Forgotten Realms. ie. there is a time of upheaval (say the Time of Unparalleled Darkness). Heroes thwart the worst effects of it but th...

Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?

Doesn't the Forgotten Terror take place completely within Aggarath? And it doesn't interact with the rest of Ravenloft? You could then safely ignore the timeline for Ravenloft and it wouldn't matter. Either that, or you could explain it by saying there is a time effect in the Mists; they can transp...

Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?

Hi folks, I've got no problem with reboots but is anyone concerned about the continuity problem of linking Curse of Strahd (and the Adventurers League modules) with 5E Forgotten Realms? Let me explain... Curse of Strahd, being a reboot of I6, would be set in 528 BC, I imagine. The Ravenloft / FR cro...
