Advice for Sinkholes of Evil
I'm working on a rank 5 sinkhole of evil that is the temple of a demon cult. The cult originally focused on a sea monster-like demon lord, and, when the temple was brought into Ravenloft, all of the cultists and priests perished in the cataclysmic process. However, because of the nature of the domai...

Marionette: ? Since marionettes are controlled by puppet masters, perhaps a fiend of possession would fit this role, especially if it were infamous for possessing dolls or more general inanimate objects. What about the tenebris Tsvtieyft Schattendertodd and his gang of murderer-hosts, the Lustmorde?

Re: How Strahd can break his curse
I , personally, think Strahd never truly loved her. What he did is lust after her and a lost youth. His behavior towards her in I, Strahd shows this. Everything that makes Tatyana a moral person is what Strahd despises and Tatyana is VERY moral. Like many people he confused lust with love. I think ...

Re: Help With A Darklord's Curse
Aleister would sooner kill himself than admit as such, and trust me, he's tried repeatedly, but, another reason why he's euthanized his companions is because he was jealous of how much better they took to becoming beasts than he did, whether it was because they simply better adjusted to becoming mon...

Re: Help With A Darklord's Curse
Another problem I'm having is how to kill Aleister dead-dead, as, due to both his ritual, and the Dark Powers, he is immortal. As in, if his powerful regeneration somehow fails, i.e., if his corpse is burnt to ash, or he gets targeted by a disintegrate spell, his spirit can possess one of the many m...

Help With A Darklord's Curse
I'm working on a darklord who is a former monster hunter turned monster (in his case, a were Smilodon ). When the darklord, Aleister, was still a human, he studied the various monsters he and his best friend, Janos, tracked and slew, and eventually became envious of the power his prey wielded. This ...

The Great Beast of Caina
Aleister Dunkirk was the son of a woodcutter in Dunkelheit, Lamordia. As a boy, Aleister was a good son, though, he was a habitual daydreamer who always pretended to be the hero of the fairytales his parents told him. One day, Aleister finally got his chance to be a hero when he rescued another boy,...

Re: Headless Horseman - Brainstorming
In Darklords, he's described as a unique undead... So, I would think he would be some sort of corporeal ghost or mist-creature that only manifests at certain times of the year, and that, once the right time has passed, he goes poof until things fall back into alignment. Or summoned.

I know he doesn't factor in, but one of his only two rules is that only Necromantic or Clerical magic be performed in Souragne... it may be an interesting complication that he become involved, not personally but through agents, to stop a violation of his law. I think this is mostly a cultural taboo...

Balnibari Archipelago Cluster
Perhaps 200 or so miles south, southeast of the Isle of Demise in the Sea of Sorrows is a quartet of islands called the "Balnibari," which translates as "Foolish Children" in Low Mordentish. The largest, and easternmost of the Balnibari is Caina, an egg-shaped, rainforested islan...

He's a Far Realms creature if I ever saw one, a Cthulhu whose cultists are fey. So Great Old One pact all the way. One of the better examples that fits the setting. (I should totally add some Name pact figures for my 5e guide, but there's an absence of good examples for the fey pact...) But... he c...

Re: Help with Death Unchained Intro
My only concern is can a darkling use mist navigation? I know they lose their connection, but they still retain the evil eye and other minor abilities. I should check the Van Richten Guide, but I am pretty sure that answer is no. The players don't have to know that (and even if they do, just say wh...

Re: Just For Fun: Non-Hostile Darklord Encounters
Why didn't he just took control of the other lich using his darklord powers? Or wiped out his enemy's memories? I think in Gaz2, Azalin mentioned that he leaves his pawns to deal with stuff so that they learn to deal with that kind of stuff, to "man up" so to speak. As was mentioned, yes ...
