Re: If Ravenloft were a film, what would you expect of it?
Agreed, a series would be even better. However we can't get too crazy I think a half dozen or so dark lords at most. After all those actors need to be paid. My, my - we are becoming practical. And if we're going down the path of realism in this entertaining thought experiment, I'd like to see Raven...

That actually sounds very watchable. Of course, I imagine a new system of magic would be an appropriate adaptation. D&D never was very good for 'mystical' magics.twinwolf wrote:my thought was that ravenloft would make a great 'tales from the crypt' style tv series.

Re: If Ravenloft were a film, what would you expect of it?
Strahd: Hugo Weaving Perfect! Azalin: Sean Bean I'm not sure Azalin would be best off killed so early on. Soth: Daniel Craig Surely the actor is less important with Soth! His permanent mask suggests that the voice actor need have no relation to the body. My main concern would be that he should be a...

Re: Modernizing Ravenloft
A Victorian style setting will have to see the back of that D&D spell list - it just doesn't fit the concepts of magic of the time. Victorians had gypsy palm-readers and spirits coming over from the other side and perhaps even knew of curses and voodoo dolls, but they didn't think much of the id...

If Ravenloft were a film, what would you expect of it?
Not that that's going to happen any time soon! But seriously - would you be thinking along the lines of a Merlin film or Sleepy Hollow? Would an adventuring party even be the best way to tackle it or would a film about Soth's encounter with Strahd be a realistic goal with the right plot? How would t...

Re: Campfire tales: tell us about YOUR old adventures!
My proudest moment in horror was getting a group of players riled up, anxious and paranoid about each other without the use of a monster encounter. Half the gaming session simply consisted of walking through an enormous forest's path for days on end. It was pitch black and contained no food; a singl...

Re: The Size of the Domain of Mist
The original theory was it was like Neverland in Peter Pan: small but packed with adventure (there's a quote about that somewhere). That's the canon size of about 25 miles per inch (or 1 mile per mm, if you want to mix your units). I prefer 10 times the size and 10 times the population personally, ...

The Size of the Domain of Mist
So old Ravenloft sources give actual sizes for Ravenloft, and it seems to about the size of a *very* small country, or even a county. The 3.5 book seems to just sweep the issue aside. I've run Ravenloft adventures, but I'm now thinking of making a campaign of it. Has anyone found it to be an issue h...

Re: What is the best game system to run Ravenloft
Heya - first time poster. Ravenloft adventures were my favourite back when I used A,D&D 2nd Ed (which was a while ago) & I've just returned to them, but could never stand the levels and linear probability of the D20 (I'm a total icosahedrophobe) so I used my own system (Polymorph). It alread...
