Re: 2nd edition Ravenloft artist name?

Hmm, interesting thoughts. I tend to love all the art of the various editions for very different reasons. Even the over-the-top 4th edition video game stuff is a feast for my eyes. That Art and Arcana book was a wonderful trip through the decades and I strongly recommend it to any fan, casual or har...

2nd edition Ravenloft artist name?

Hey guys, I can't seem to find this anywhere searching around on the internet. I'm looking for the name of the artist that drew so many of the iconic images in the 2nd edition product line. His rendition of the tarokka deck was just fantastic, but he (she?) also did a ton of interior illustrations f...

The Resurrectionist: The Lost Work of Dr. Spencer Black

I just picked up this book last week and was very impressed. It's about a brilliant but creepy 1800's surgeon who starts to delve into a bit of "alternative medicine". Without revealing too much, he develops his own hypotheses on why so many cultures believed in mythical creatures that wer...

Oh, I definitely wouldn't do all of the light switches in that style. The majority of the basement would be your standard variety except maybe one in the same corner as the Mordenheim/Frankenstein looking apparatus, just to pay homage to that particular sub-genre.

Re: Designing a "Van Richten" study [image intensive]

Some additional thoughts: - It seems like leather furniture is all but mandatory for this look - a couch and maybe a chair or two, even better if they have metal rivets down the vertical lines. - If I don't go with the Sea Serpent map on a wall, a spinning globe antique might be even better! - a cre...

Designing a "Van Richten" study [image intensive]

My wife and I have been doing some remodeling of our home. She gets mostly carte blanche on several of the upstairs rooms as far as aesthetic goes. But the basement is mine! I've recently found myself very interested by Victorian/Gothic influences, classic horror movies, and so on. I have half a min...

Re: Most badass quotes in fiction

"Remember that I am thy creature; I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed. Everywhere I see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded. I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virt...

Re: Your Headcanon: The True Nature of the Dark Powers?

They are a coalesced, focused sense of guilt or conscience made incarnate. They are the Jiminy Cricket of the multiverse. We create and empower them every time we knowingly do wrong to advance our own cause - whether it be for monetary gain, political clout, or to win the admiration of a lover. If, ...

Re: Thoughts on Forlorn

A really nice take on a Scottish setting. 8) It wouldn't take much to add a Sawney Bean/Christie Cleek band of cannibalistic bandits/ghouls for a slightly different type of menace. Oooh, I love that. I'm not sure the population of Carrion Crow's Forlarn vision could support it though. Well, ...

Re: Thoughts on Forlorn

Yeah, you caught me in mid-edit. I went back and read your original post and caught the ballad reference on the 2nd go around :) You've inspired me to read a bit more into the legend and I love the idea of Ninestane Rig making an appearance in this domain in place of the old druid presence. Also, do...

However, every seven years, de Soulis is returned to mortal form (as an 8th Lvl Arcanist, with the immunities he gained in life) on the aniversary of his death, at which point Robyn Redcap becomes his servant once more. This only last for 24 hours, for at sunset, the inhabitants of Forlorn acting u...

Re: Thoughts on Forlorn

I heartily enjoyed your rework of Tepest and I feel like your revised Forlorn might end up being even better. See, I went to Scotland with the wife last August and absolutely fell in love with the culture, the legends, the Jacobite Rebellions, the music, the mythology, EVERYTHING. I've been devourin...

Re: Thoughts on Tepest

Carrion Crow, I like the cut of your jib. Those are some wicked takes on classic tales. The image of Rapunzel's body jerking spasmodically with thousands of spiders beneath the surface, ready to boil out of gaping rents in her desiccated skin, is wonderful imagery. Much like yourself I followed very...

http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/Library.html Souragne Gazeteer, There's a Survey and a web enhancement for download there. Oh, that is some terrific work. I've only read up to page 9 so far (and then skimmed ahead) but this looks to contain a wealth of ideas and hooks. Also, I much prefer this C...

Re: Souragne/Chicken Bone question

Oooh! I just stumbled across a nice write-up of Chicken Bone, it looks like a paste from a sourcebook, so I'm going to assume this is official information. Can anyone confirm? It appears that Russian website has copied and posted the 1993 2nd Edition MC Ravenloft Appendix II: Children of the Night ...
