I also like Ivan. Of course, part of the trick is to get rid of his tendency to wander around in costume. That makes him much less silly.

there is a horrible part of me, that right now I very much want to kick in the goolies, that wants to adapt Ohotori Academy from Shojou Kakumei Utena as a domain, with Akio Ohotori as the darklord. Unfortunately, I fear his manwhoreishness is too much for even the Dark Powers to contain. I'd argue ...

For me, the greatest problem with incorporating sex into a dice RPG is that you can never quite get the thought out of your mind that your lover basically is the DM. Heh. My husband GMs a Mage: The Ascension game, and he and my brother basically spent about half an hour of one session hitting on ea...

Another from Dracula, after they've destroyed some of his coffins: "You think to baffle me, you--with your pale faces all in a row, like sheep in a butcher's. . . . My revenge is just begun! I spread it over centuries, and time is on my side. Your girls that you love are mine already; and throu...

Dracula once called Mina Harker "my bountiful wine-press!" I had a vampire villain refer to a beloved NPC that she'd been feeding off in that way, and it really ticked the PCs off. That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head, but more will undoubtedly be forthcoming.

I think my most hated, feared villains were both canon NPCs. After I ran "Bleak House," I ran "Feast of the Goblyns" in a different campaign. When the one player who was in both games realized that Dr. Dominiani was Heinfroth, he literally screamed and started throwing things at ...

Five words for Borca or any other high-culture domain: Telemann's Suite in A Minor. Good old-fashioned minor key Baroque music that reeks of duels and political intrigue. My husband's character is Borcan, and ever since the Borca arc of the campaign he's started playing Telemann on the drive down to...

Nosferatu daylight powerlessness

My PCs are in all likelihood going to make their move against a nosferatu next session, and not being idiots, they're going to try to take her out during the day. I'm a little confused by exactly what powers fall under the "daylight powerlessness" umbrella, though. I get that they can't us...

Barovia: The PCs are in the inn where they're spending the night, and as the sun begins to set, the innkeeper throws a bar down over the door and locks and bars the windows. A little while later, the PCs hear screams coming from outside. A few of the other patrons in the inn look at the door nervous...

The folk of the western Core might think it unrelated to evil and more a lack of following Ezra, while the Eastern Core would related it to following heathen gods (ie not the Lawgiver). Tepest would tie it to witchcraft and black (aka all) magic. Heck, worshipers of the Lawgiver would be on powers ...

If you wanted to, you could fudge the operation of the poison so that it actually changes the victim's bodily functions. If you neutralize the poison outright with magic, it'll kill the victim as well. Instead, the proper way to do it requires ingredients A, B, and C which can coincidentally only b...

Borrowed Time

Holy wow, it's been over a year since I've posted. Um...hi, guys. I'm not dead. I've hit a wall with the Borcan stretch of my campaign due to those pesky spellcasters. One of my PCs has a brother in the Borrowed Men who's experiencing pangs of conscience, and I'm planning on fudging things so...

Ohhh, no. Ohhh, no no no no NO. This is everything that's wrong with standard D&D. Van Richten is a symbol of how the PCs are supposed to take down monsters in Ravenloft; research the daylights out of them, be smart instead of necessarily being strong, and then, when you're as prepared as you're...
