Re: Tarokka Character Creation
Here are the results: For a new campaign, Out of the Abyss, we made the characters using a modified Tarot deck (The 3.x Ravenloft Tarokka deck). The deck consists of numbers 1-10 in 4 suits - Swords, Coins, Glyphs, and Stars (loosely thematically tied to Fighters, Rogues, Clerics, & Wizards resp...

Re: Tarokka Character Creation
Seems like it would be fun for generating NPC's, but randomly generating a PC (regardless of method) is anathema to me. It is anathema to you to determine your stats randomly? I can see preferring point buy, but that is quite an extreme stance. Does no one you play with prefer rolling stats? Everyo...

Re: Tarokka Character Creation
DISCLAIMER: I know very little about 5e. The major differences here is that bounded accuracy makes bonuses and penalties very important. Even a +1 is significant. Also each character chooses a background (what their profession was prior to adventuring) which provides skills and a minor ability. The...

Tarokka Character Creation
I am not a big fan of the swingyness of rolling stats in D&D 5e and I don't like the staleness of point buy. I also love the Tarokka deck. So I am designing a character creation method around it (that goes beyond what is suggested in the deck) There are 2 main parts: 1) Stat Generation. Take out...

Re: Vote Ravenloft
I am sure FR and Eberron would have been 1st and 2nd if the poll was done on the wizards forums.Satyrwyld wrote:I'm surprised Forgotten Realms didn't place first. Through the years, I've heard waaaaaaay too much about Drizzt Do'Urden.

Re: Vote Ravenloft
It's beloved, sure, but as a favorite setting of all time? *shrug* who knew? Keep in mind that 3 votes were allowed for each person in that poll. Because so many people are familiar with it, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people voted for their favourite niche settings and also Greyhawk to fin...

Re: MARKET PLACE: Ravenloft's interesting auctions and links
no buy now option probably because the person wants to get a nice price so I'm up to 25$ already and i'm not sure how I am willing to go. Are those your bids on the auction? If you want the best price on an auction you should wait as long as possible and then only bid once, the highest you are will...

Re: Creating a new Paladin spell.
I would make it a lower level spell and allow you to use your lay on hands a weapon designated when you cast the spell. Duration 1 minute/level.
2nd level seems about right for that.

Re: A fond look back at the Black Box
And then I read the phrase "There but for the grace of the gods, go I". The darklords are people who have been placed in terrible positions of overwhelming consequences - and they have chosen poorly and must suffer for it. But at heart, they were once people like us... and placed in the s...

Re: Repressed Sorcery
Is the idea that she can also cast spells normally too? Because the feat does not prohibit normal spellcasting. This is a very specific situation, I would just houserule the sorcerer into a class specifically for her. It's going to be too hard to design a feat or replacement ability that is balanced...

Re: A Horseman's Intro - Looking for Advice and Ideas
I think you should have a talk with the players before the game starts and set some ground rules. One of my rules is that the characters can die. This makes it more fun when they don't. Also ensure that you explain to them the sorts of power levels the characters are at so they understand what their...

Re: Nightmare City
Perhaps the creatures are experimenting with how far one can push the human mind - and every time the heroes believe they have escaped they are only emerging into another level of their fabricated world, designed to continue with their tests. When they finally do escape the group is then left with ...
