Re: The Fiendish Races and Ravenloft

I do have to admit that-where Ravenloft is concerned- I've never been a big fan of village-destroying baatezu or babau. And I've always pretty well hated that giant marilith- ever since Adam's Wrath introduced her. Plus, I tend to think that most baatezu and yugoloths should be more Lucifer/ Faust/ ...

Re: House of Lament

Interesting ideas, Alhoon. The "deathtrap" nature of the place as written up in Darklords has always given me a bit of pause, since I didn't really want to sideline or kill my PCs. The "good lad" or the father might work well as both a chosen victim and a motivation, though.

Re: Book of Souls

Like I said, the general feeling I got was that most didn't care for it. In my case, however, I elaborated a great deal on the nature and background of the Book and the idea of the so-called Dark Pawn, and closely tied them to my own version of the DPs, the Red Death, and the GC. As a result, the Bo...

Re: Fraternity of Shadows (The secret society)

Using a great deal of the netbook stuff- excellent work, by the way, Nathan- I actually ended up making the FoS and the Syndicate of EC among the top "canon" villains in my campaign, and often played them off against each other. They were both interested for their own reasons in "acqu...

Re: The Fiendish Races and Ravenloft

It's funny you should mention wandering pit fiends, Strahdsbuddy, since I had an NPC in my campaign who was exactly that, though the party didn't realize it. Accidentally summoned years ago by a PC psionicist who didn't understand the nature of the demiplane, then pretty much forgotten about, he too...

Cupbearers

A great many things about Gazetteer 3's Richemulot chapter captured my attention upon first reading it, but the Cupbearers had to be at or near the top of the list. I fleshed out them and the Prodigal concept quite a bit for my campaigns without realizing the whole thing was basically a nod to The D...

Re: What (other) class is Strahd?

I hope you'll forgive my relative unfamiliarity with post-2E mechanics, but if you wish to reflect his background, I think I would go with (if workable) a combination of low-level Aristocrat/ low-level Mage/ mid-level Fighter/ relatively high-level Necromancer. After all, in life, he seems to have b...

Re: Bards

Frankly, I see no problem with bards per se in Ravenloft, have used several, and think there should be a whole slew of them running around Kartakass- without the silly DoD caveat about them all being narrulv. That said, I feel the resources mentioned by Strahdsbuddy can go a long way in better adapt...

Re: Powers Check-Assisted Suicide

Just out of curiosity, what about a person like Victor Szaz (sp?) from the Batman comics who brutally murders victims that don't want to die, but is so insane he really believes he's granting them mercy?

Re: Freeing Malken

My idea was to have Tristen recruit the PCs to search for the Apparatus or information about it under false pretenses, foolishly hoping that he could finally destroy a separated Malken. Of course, the real outcome probably would have been much worse...

Re: Making Ravenloft more self-contained

Incidentally, while I rather like the idea of being consumed by total corruption, shouldn't the aforementioned transpossessed retain their original personalities, if a bit warped? After all, there would be no actual fiend from an actual Lower Plane to swap places with them.

Re: Making Ravenloft more self-contained

IMC, I had the Demiplane more or less cut off from the Outer Planes for various reasons. Any and all priests other than those of Ezra, Hala, and the Morninglord (who was a cooperative fiction backed by the former two) unwittingly received their "miracles" from the DPs. Ezra and Hala had th...

Re: Evil PCs, Post ToUD, and the book of darkness

I actually cooked up quite a lot of ToUD stuff and even a few post-ToUD ideas, much of which I haven't yet had the chance to use. Unfortunately, it probably requires enough explanation and ties closely to my own campaigns' background that I'm not sure it would be very useful to you as a whole.

Re: The Walking Dead: Psychologies

Also, while I wholeheartedly agree about both Toben's Lecter vibe and that vibe's general overuse, I still find him fascinating and very useful. I tend to think of him as being more like The Joker myself. And by that I don't mean the buffoonish "Clown Prince of Crime" version, but rather t...
