I used to turn to the Weekly World News when in need of inspiration for plots, but am not sure that qualifies...
However, my Ravenloft is largely based on real world events and even uses a map of the world instead of the many disparate maps out there. Sawney Beane immediately comes to mind...

Re: A New Domain
I tend in my RL campaign to translate the domains to real-world places, allowing me to toss in historical tidbits so I am providing an educational experience-this seems to be a larger bone of contention than I initially thought here, which is somewhat confusing to me, but for the purists, a translat...

Re: A New Domain
The problem with a setting so far back in history is that the basic premise of Horror in this era is that Reality is just roughly stamped on Reality and Chaos (literally) just lurks beneath the surface-more Lovecraft than anything else. The darklord is an evil Gilgamesh type after the namlugal , the...

A New Domain
I am putting up a new domain I've been working on based on ancient Sumer. I will post more, but wish to start with the bare bones to feel out where I need work-it's a bit lengthy, but any input is appreciated. Kingir:the Civilized Land Cultural Level: Bronze Age(CL2) to Classical (CL4) Landscape: Fu...

Yep-Chernobog later cashed in on evil by working for Disney "Night on Bald Mountain" in Fantasia, while Byelobog sort of fell off the face of the earthHuManBing wrote:Is that Chernobog and Byelobog?Sareau wrote:PreChristian Russia did indeed have a dualist pantheon-a good solar diety and an evil nocturnal one.

Re: Creating a "backwards" domain...does this sound coherent
PreChristian Russia did indeed have a dualist pantheon-a good solar diety and an evil nocturnal one, so that fits-there wasn't a phoenix, but there were flying fire snakes, so that can be stretched to fit. Maybe read "Deathless" for more inspiration, but I think You are on the right track.

Re: The Blood Moon - ideas for a revamped Bluetspur
I think the comet idea is somewhat influenced by the movie Lifeforce , where these alien vampires visit earth periodically to feed their race before returning to space to sleep once again. The role of one of the characters in the film and the link he has to the aliens was very interesting, and now ...

Re: The Blood Moon - ideas for a revamped Bluetspur
Comets have always had an impact on early man, and my own campaign had an Elder Demon who'd been tied to one as a result of a near-miss on Armageddon. His comet always presaged the usual madness and death, and many cults attempted to cash in on his malevolence by chucking virgins into volcanoes or w...

Re: Why do women want to have sex with Monsters?
I would really like to hear a female weigh in, but this is the Internet... Which is populated by more women than men, according to recent studies, so that's not really and issue. (It's the RPG industry and fanbase that's more male than female, which is more likely to blame for the lack of female re...

Re: Why do women want to have sex with Monsters?
Where is it that women won't take risks in their jobs? There are plenty of women who do so. The first thing that sprung into my mind was the men and women serving in the army. There are some tough women out there, and other's striving to break the boundries and common tropes that we have with women...

Re: Why do women want to have sex with Monsters?
Buffy was a classic, but in most of the relationships you mentioned, the monstrous nature of the one partner was hidden, or (in the case of Willow and Oz) they were dating before Oz was afflicted with lycanthropy. The only relationship mentioned that fits the paradigm is Buffy & Spike, and that...

Re: Ghostsight feat?
I think that a overview of the Ethereal is necessary-especially landmarks, etc. Ghosts can still retreat to the Deep Ethereal, or maybe brush up on their Hide and Move Silently scores-invisibility IS relative.

Re: Why do women want to have sex with Monsters?
Actually, upon reflection, I think two episodes of Star Trek are germane to the thread: the Salt Vampire, who wears the form of it's Renfield's dead wife, is protected by it's Renfield, but the defense speech is leaden and takes the form of a naturalist preserving an endangered species-quite frankly...

Re: Ghostsight feat?
I might impose some sort of Perception check to see if the character realizes he's seeing the Ethereal. Otherwise, everything here is very good.
