Re: 5e character paths

The dirgist was a Prestige Class for bards in Van Richten's Arsenal. For 5E I would make it a new College, perhaps called the College of Sorrows, or the College of Mourning. Take a look at the four existing Colleges (2 in the PHB and 2 from Unearthed Arcana) and then look at the Dirgist's abilities ...

Re: Ravenloft for 5e - Planning

Has anyone given any thought to Backgrounds? I can easily see some new Backgrounds, like Cold One or Medium, while modifying some of the existing ones, like the Hermit, to create Dervishes for Pharazia, or Entertainer, to create Gypsies. Any thoughts? I created five right here: http://mhobservatory...

Re: Comments/suggestions on Jester's rules (5e)

Count me in the group against creating a "Gargoyle" PC race as an analogue for the Dragonborn. It's much simpler to simply say "Dragonborn are never native to the Lands of the Mists", with a few guidelines for how Dragonborn might end up in Ravenloft (such as a Draconian being dr...

Re: Heroes of the Mist: 4e Ravenloft Project

Anton Misroi and Gregor Zolnik are probably the two Darklords most closely tied to Primal spirits. Misroi is probably not a Shaman, but his knowledge of the Dance of the Dead could allow him NPC Controller and Artillery effects similar to Shaman powers. He might also have access to rituals that use ...

Re: Languages of Ravenloft

Speaking of which and an admitted change in topics, do or would you allow the Rapid Reload feat to function for pistols in Ravenloft or muskets? One of my players asked about it, and I thought I'd see if it's been discussed here. I would not for two reasons. The first involves the difference betwee...

Re: Heroes of the Mist: 4e Ravenloft Project

I've been giving some thought to how to work the Primal Power source into the setting and I think I've hit on some nice ideas. Mortavius, Hell_Born, I'm assuming you're both familar enough with the backstory from PHB2 and Primal Power that I don't need to elaborate too much. According to PHB2 , the ...

Re: Heroes of the Mist: 4e Ravenloft Project

Wow, this topic really went on the walkabout. (SNIP) For example, races have changed, classes have changed... (SNIP) Not that I mind the derailing over much but... yeah, this isn't exactly what I signed on for when I started this. Sorry about the tangents with Isolde, but at least Mortavius and I c...

Re: A successful invasion of Darkon?

Specific to Ebb, I was wondering how to model a Shadow Dragon in GURPS, as the game system does not use levels. Given Ebb's background from an irradiated asteroid in the void around a dying star, I thought it could be fun to give her a dual breath weapon of sleeting radiation or implosive vacuum. I...

Re: A successful invasion of Darkon?

Your mention of Ebb is important: if she were set loose on the battlefield, things would turn very bad for the Falkovnians very quickly. In terms of mass combat, what could a strong, well-equipped medieval army do against a dragon? Go on a quest for the Silver Arm of Ergoth and the Hammer of Kharas...

Re: A successful invasion of Darkon?

Also, if you wanted to, you could fiddle with another canon figure and say that Bastion Raines, instead of being the most open of all the Ezrans to non-humans, is the least open, and wants to subjugate the demihuman population of Darkon with Falkovnian assistance. (Imagine what a coup it would be t...

Re: Heroes of the Mist: 4e Ravenloft Project

It's not a great fit for canon, but acceptable. IMO its the closest that a 4E version of Isolde can come to fitting into the older canon. The game mechanics and default assumptions of 4E are not the ones used in earlier editions. The goal shouldn't be "This has to be identical to what came bef...

Re: A successful invasion of Darkon?

Finally, I appreciate The Pickled Punk 's contributions, which focus almost exclusively on canonical reasons why the invasion would fail. However, given that the thread's clear intended purpose is to discuss non-canonical ways that an invasion could succeed, it appears perhaps this thread isn't for...

Re: Heroes of the Mist: 4e Ravenloft Project

4E Tieflings and 4E Devas are not really similar at all. (SNIP) Yes, thanks, I'm very much familiar with the story differences between the two races (one of the reasons I like the new Devas). But if you strip all that away, they are angelic based PC's and fiendish based PC's. And since this discuss...
