Re: Halucinogenic Grain

I like the idea of the witch hunt or inquisition in Tempest or Nidala. One of Drakov's minions attempting to soften up a neighbour for invasion with tainted grain could be fun. I'm not sure why (and its the wrong sort of horror) but I can see something like this working for a John Windhamish scenari...

Halucinogenic Grain

I just read this BBC article Pont-Saint-Esprit poisoning: Did the CIA spread LSD? and obviously its a bit too modern for Ravenloft but it could make for an interesting inspiration for an adventure. Pretty much any of the more civilized domains could be affected. Not sure why but an outbreak in Falko...

Re: The great fire of....

I've posted the first part of Ravenloft Ablaze on my website and I'd love to hear what you think of it. I've got some d20 crunch to follow but I didn't want to get too lost in that and never get round to posting this.

Re: The great fire of....

Just checked and I did finish the 7th Sea article on fire. Its 6000 words long of which about 2500 is an easilly changed academic paper discussing fire in 7th Sea that should be immediately adaptable to Ravenloft. I'll try and get a Ravenloft version of that up on my website by the weekend. The rest...

Re: The great fire of....

I had a Great Fire article in development for 7th Sea for a magazine that never got to issue 1 I'll have a dig around see if I've still got it. Some of it might be adaptable to Ravenloft. By Permission of Heaven: The Story of the Great Fire of London is a great read about all sorts of things to do w...

Re: A domain or land like Scotland?

Have to agree that Forlorn is the most Scottish of the domains. The boxed set also had useful stuff in it but don't let the players go near the loch

@Lost Heretic It worked nicely in play: Adam is hunted by Falkovnian forces and even more isolated. Drakov gets a victory that he can't enjoy because while he controls the land he can't go there. Everyone else feels threatened by his victory. Darkon is cut off from the growing Sea of Sorrows trade d...

I diverge from everyone else a bit: Souragne was a colony of Dementlieu and is now a colony of Mordentshire. My Sourange is a whole island (containing 3 domains) at the heart of a chain of Islands far to the West of the Core in the Sea of sorrows. It exports produce to the core but relies on the cor...

There are lots of odd names in the US and Canada inflicted on the geography by early puritans settlers. They didn't just write them on maps - take a look at the names they gave their children. Nottingham was originally called Snottingham after the saxon chieftain Snot. Completely wrong era and not a...

Nice :-)

I say keep them and start work on a cute and fluffy 4th edition version of Ravenloft - slip it in by the back door they'll never notice while their going gooey eyed over the cuteness.

I went to see it last Saturday and I've posted my Solomon Kane review on my blog. I've not read the stories (although I'm looking to get a copy now) but the film has a nice Ravenloft feel. It should be pretty easy to use it as a setting for Ravenloft. For 2nd Edition I'd use the old TSR Mighty Fortr...

Castle Pantera: There was me thinking it was originally built as the home for a big haired '80s metal act. When they went broke it was bought and redecorated as it was pulled into Ravenloft. However somewhere inside can be found: a fully equipped recording studio, a lost stash of drugs/booze/wine gu...

Folk Sayings

I picked a book of folk sayings from around the world up the other day. Some of them seemed very Ravenlofty. My favourite so far has to be an eastern European saying: "A pitch fork makes three holes" Which sounds like it could be a saying from Barovia. While this French one comes a close s...

Being a little controversial I'm leaving off Barovia not because it shouldn't be there but because personally I don't think it should need to be considered - no Barovia and it just wouldn't be Ravenloft (actually I think a better question would have been which domains do you have to have for it to b...
