The lady will think of one when she's done teaching for the morning. ;-) Oops... The dangers of online text-only communication. I apologize, madame. FWIW, the misquote may be justified, as Stoker might've been attempting to show that the Transylvanians aren't terribly well-educated, and/or t...

Take it away.

Sorry for the delay in giving a question. Here's another one: A certain Romantic German poem is more well-known for being misquoted in a famous Gothic work than for itself. The passage which is misquoted follows: "Wir und die Toten reiten schnell;" Question: What is the title of this poem?...

Don't know what to tell you, Jim. I haven't had any problems running it. I imported my 10th level Pool of Radiance Reloaded character, clicked on the dice, and I was ready to go. Are you sure your NWN2 is fully updated? Also, the module requires both expansions to run, especially Storm of Zehir, as ...

That was a tough one, and I may be reaching for straws here, but my guess would be Lady Geraldine from Coleridge's Christabel. She isn't explicitly a vampire, but she has some similarities to Carmilla von Karstein, so that's my bid.

Misery Stone - new Ravenloft module for NWN2

Hey there, Recently released is a fairly large (about 10h playing time) adventure for the Neverwinter Nights 2 video game taking place in Ravenloft called Misery Stone. It can be downloaded at the Neverwinter Nights Vault. I thought those of you who play NWN2 would like to know. I haven't played it ...

Interesting. You know a lot about the Holy Roman Empire? I have only a passing knowledge of that hodge-podge confederation of feudal states, which was never quite an empire. A lacuna in my education, I see now. And no worries, I like to learn new things, and my knowledge of the Holy Roman Empire is ...

Nobility does not necessarily require ownership of a 'fief.' Many European kingdoms and principalities have conferred noble titles of one sort or another with no grant of land. The so-called feudal system , as such, didn't really exist as anything cohesive across medieval or Early Modern Europe. Wh...

A title might come without land, depending on its origin and the system of titles in the country. Yes, some noble titles come without lands, but in this specific case, the title of Baron usually means "a lord of a barony." Things could work differently in Lamordia, of course. As you say, ...

also oh em gee I never put that together until now, he totally is "Doctor Murder Home". Yeah, about 90 percent of Ravenloft's names are like that. If one knows just a smattering of Indo-European languages, Ravenloft as written is pretty much ruined with its lands of Blood Trail, Rich Fiel...

According to the oldest source on Dr. Murderhome I could find, namely Realm of Terror, p. 105, Victor is indeed an aristocrat, but his specific titles and holdings aren't mentioned. The text merely states: "His sharp, pronounced features belie an aristocratic background (his father was a lord w...

Finally, what defines a language is its grammar, not its vocabulary. That's why Jabberwocky is understandable, despite having most of the words made up: because the sentence construction is English. Even if the *words* of Invidian Balok are based on Italian rather than Romanian or Slavic, if it has...

Invidia is definitely meant to be Italian-inspired, not Spanish. As Sorti said, "invidia" is also envy in Italian. Il Duce is Italian, meaning "the Leader"; the Spanish title would be El Caudillo, meaning "chieftain" or "leader." That was also, coincidentally,...

She is wearing a dress resembling one, and wearing headgear to match. Richemulaise society is, as far as I recall, a Renaissance society (real Renaissance, not what the rules call Renaissance), so my argument is not that the Land of Rich Fieldmouse is a 1920's domain, but rather that I find it enorm...

I missed the 19th century line. The way you were speaking about modern themes made me think of post-20th century literature, my bad. No problem. Modern is a tricky word that can mean all sorts of things, so I suppose I should have been more clear in my nomenclature. But, regardless as to which move...
