The Defiance was an ancient qabal that attempted to confront and eliminate the Red Death before it could gain too much power. On the eve of their attack in the 5th century AD, the members of the Defiance were betrayed by one of their own, a man named Cyril. All their efforts were lost, and their leader, Hypatia was slain.^[1]

Despite the fact that the Defiance disintegrated, it did not leave a legacy. Many of its members escaped and went on to create new qabals, some of which persist tot his day.^[2]
