Dr. Henry Wollcote is a Mordentish physician who speaks cryptically of "death" like it is a physical entity just as much as a force. According to his accounts, he first met "death" (and saw its defeat) serving as a draftee in his youth in the Falkovnian army during the Dead Man's Campaign. Sometime during Wollcote's stint in the army, he gained his ability to overcome death. After the Dead Man's Campaign was over, he eventually earned a full-fledged medical doctorate in Lamordia. Over time, Dr. Wollcote performed many seemingly impossible medical miracles.[1]

Dr. Wollcote believed he had gotten the better of death, until a fateful event in Hazlan. There he encountered a foul disease simply known as the rot. The Rot defied all his efforts to cure it. He saw a poor Rashemani boy die and became accused of causing the rot by a random street cleaner. Driven to near madness, Dr. Wollcote had some kind of encounter with "death" once again where he claims to have stalked it with the intent to kill it. However, he saw a vision of his wife Maria Joyce Helcyna dying to the rot. He rushed home, but was too late to save her. He eventually ended up contracting the rot himself.[1]

Dr. Wollcote's ego was broken as he slipped into depression, but he became a kinder, more empathic man. He still has the power to raise the recently dead via long medical operations, but at the cost of his health deteriorating to the rot. He also still seeks to kill death.[1]
